EDUCATION 211. (Formerly 201.) PRINCIPLES OF SECONDARY
EDUCATION. The philosophy, organization, fundamental facts underlying
the aims and principles of secondary education are
stressed. Professional ideals of teaching are stressed throughout
the course. This course is required of all students majoring in
secondary education. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 212. (Formerly 203.) EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.
The general problems of learning, such as native and acquired
characteristics, individual differences, motivations and different
theories of learning; application of psychology is made to the
teaching process of secondary education. This course is required
of all students majoring in secondary education. Three semester
hours.
EDUCATION 301. THE TEACHING OF READING. Consideration of
what reading is and how our present-day methods have developed.
Determining reading readiness at all levels; setting up an
effective program in reading to interpret the present day philosophy
of reading instruction for the development of the whole
child. This course is required of those students majoring in elementary
education. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 302. (Formerly 232.) TEACHING THE LANGUAGE
ARTS. Effective teaching of the techniques of oral and written expression
with emphasis upon correct usage and growth in spelling
skills and upon functional methods of teaching cursive and manuscript
writing forms the integral part of this course for teachers
in primary and elementary grades. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 303. (Formerly 235.) DIAGNOSTIC AND REMEDIAL
READING. In this course students become acquainted with the
better practices in reading from grades one to seven, including
evaluation of reading materials, methodology, and diagnostic and
remedial procedure. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 304. (Formerly 231.) ARITHMETIC IN THE ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL. This course is designed to acquaint the primary
and elementary teacher with approved techniques and materials
for teaching arithmetic. This course is required of all students majoring
in elementary education. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 305. (Formerly 228.) ADMINISTRATION OF THE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. This course deals with practical problems82
