HISTORY OF DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE
1888-Presbyterian Synod at Albany resolved to build a college in
Brownwood.
1889-Mr. M. J. and S. R. Coggin donated block on which was
located the Coggin Academy, Brown County's first High
School, part of the academy building still standing on the
campus.
1890-Administration Building Completed.
1921-Coggin Memorial Chapel Complted
Coggin Endowment established.
1930-Daniel Baker became an Independent Christian College.
1946-Daniel Baker became a Senior College of the Southwestern
University System.
1950-Daniel Baker became the Episcopal College of the Southwest.1953-Consolidated with Howard Payne College of Liberal Arts,
Daniel Baker becomes the Daniel Baker College of Agriculture
and Useful Arts.
DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE CAMPUS
AND BUILDINGS
The old stone Main Building, with its beautiful pointed
spires, was erected by Dr. B. T. McClelland, the Founder of
Daniel Baker College, in 1890. This structure is one of the most
interesting buildings in the state of Texas.
Coggin Memorial Chapel. On the opposite corner of the
Main Campus stands the Coggin Memorial Chapel, erected under
the terms of the will of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Coggin.
