BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
College of Liberal Arts
MODES OF ADMISSION
1. By Graduation from an Affiliated High School. Graduates
of classified high schools and academies listed in the Bulletin of
Texas Education Agency, or of standard classification agencies in
other states, will be admitted to the freshman class upon presentation
of college entrance certificate containing statement of graduation
and fifteen accredited units in accordance with tables presented
hereafter.
2. By Examination. Applicants who have not been graduated
from affiliated schools, and who do not have to their credit as
many as 15 affiliated units, may be admitted to the Freshman
year by examination. Entrance examinations on various subjects
may be taken under the direction of the Texas Education Agency
at the various county seats of Texas, or at certain designated
high schools in May of each year; or the examinations may be
taken at Howard Payne College at the beginning of any semester.
A student must complete all of his examinations before he is
allowed to register.
3. By Individual Approval. Serious minded students over
twenty-one years of age may be admitted without examination
or diploma. Upon completing six semester hours in each of the
needed departments such students will receive credit for the preceding
high school units. Six hours completed in English, Mathematics,
Social Science, Science, Foreign Language, or Vocational
subjects, with satisfactory grades will give credit also for three
preceding high school units in each subject.
The following is the list of units prescribed for entrance:
English 3, Social Science 2, Mathematics 2, and Natural Science 1.
Elective units may be made up from the following subjects:
English 1. Social Sciences: Ancient History 1, Modern History 1,
American History /2 or 1, English History /2 or 1, Texas History
2, Civics 2 or 1, Economics /2. Mathematics: Solid Geometry
/2; Trigonometry /2, Advanced Arithmetic /2, Algebra;
Plane Geometry 1; General Mathematics 1. Foreign Languages:
Latin 2, 3, or 4; Spanish 2, 3, or 4; Greek 2, 3, or 4; German 2, 3,
or 4; French 2, 3, or 4. Natural Sciences: Biology 1, Chemistry 1,
Introduction to Science 1, Physics 1, Physiography /2, Physiology
and Hygiene /2, Zoology 1. Vocational Subjects: Agricul42
