BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
RELIGIOUS CULTURE
Howard Payne College is pre-eminently an institution for
Christian education.
Bible in the Curriculum. In the College of Liberal Arts, six
hours of Bible study are required for a degree.
Chapel Exercises. All students are required to attend chapel
services. These services are conducted by the teachers or persons
invited to speak to the students.
Church Services. Brownwood is a city of churches. Students
are expected and urged to attend services on Sunday at the church
of their choice. Students who have no church preferences are
cordially invited to worship with the Faculty at the Baptist
churches.
Revival Meetings. Each session, revival services are conducted
for one week. Many students are brought to Christ.
Place of the Christian College. Howard Payne College believes
that the Christian College has a definite place and program
in the life of the denomination and the American people. In the
center of the college objectives are the training of the Baptist
ministry and the training in Christian character of all students.
We believe that the Christian college should have Christian teachers,
a Christian atmosphere and a definite and distinct Christian
course of study.
Stated in more practical terms, the purpose of Howard Payne
College is to train ministers, missionaries and church workers,
teachers, home makers and business men to live Christian lives
and to make their influence effective for Christ not only in the
church, but in the home, the school and the community, the
business enterprises and the state. These objectives are being
accomplished through a program of studies and activities that
develop the students in personality and leadership.41
