A course designed to apply communication theory to the solving of business or professional
interpersonal problems. Stresses theory systems adapted to organizational structure; interviewing
and conference techniques as well as public speaking in professional settings.
5345. Cultural Communication.
The cultures of people throughout the world, with emphasis on cultural patterns. The course is
especially valuable for missionaries, but is also recommended for all Christian workers. (Same
as Bible M 5345.)
5373. Preaching.
Philosophy of preaching; preparation and presentation practice. Identifies basic sermon types
and use of supporting material. (Same as Bible E 5393.)
5374. Preaching.
Attention to audience analysis, persuasion, and special problems such as funerals, weddings, and
mass communication techniques. (Same as Bible E 5394.)
5375. Persuasion.
Includes classical concepts, contemporary uses, and the ethics of persuasion.

Methods of teaching speech courses approved in secondary schools. Practical problems in curriculum

6311. General Research Methods.
An introduction to research methods and their application to research problems. Prerequisite: A
course in statistics or tests and measurement. (Same as Bib M 6319, Ed. 6311, and Psy. 6311).
6320. Communication Research Methods.
Research methods used in communication. Emphasis on the scientific method, survey research,
laboratory research, sampling procedures, questionnaire construction, and interviewing techniques.
Prerequisite: Psy. 3356 or equivalent.
6330. History and Philosophy of Speech Education.
A survey of the history of speech education with emphasis on speech education in the United
States.
6342. Seminar in Communication.
In-depth study of various problems and concepts in Communication. Course may be repeated
with different content for a total of 9 hours.
6380. History of Preaching.
A critical view of preaching from New Testament times to the present, with particular emphasis
on outstanding periods, trends, and men. (Same as Bible 6380).
6381. Advanced Studies in Homiletic Theory.
Homiletic theory from Augustine to the modern era, with particular emphasis on developing
trends and the men and times responsible for them. (Same as Bible 6381.)
