Friday celebration to
honor 100th birthday
Mother Jewel Fowler White of Hopewell Primitive Baptist
Church will celebrate her 100th birthday on March 21. She will
be honored with a celebration that day in Cedar Creek.
White was born in Elgin in 1908 to Dock and Hattie Jane
Meeks Fowler. She is eighth of 13 children, and she has lived
in Bastrop County all her life.
On December 30, 1926, White married Deacon Australia
White, in May 1929 she joined Hopewell and has been a
member for 79 years. She has served on the Senior Mission
Auxiliary since 1931 and has served on the Usher Board for 50
years.

The Bastrop County
Republican Women will meet
on Thursday, March 20 at
7 p.m. at the First National
Bank building on Main Street
in Sniithville. The group will
host a candidates' forum for
local non-partisan races such as
school board and city council
from Bastrop and Smithville.
In addition, party chair
Albert Ellison will be on hand
to discuss the March 4 primary
and other business relating to
the upcoming general elec-
tion. Also, Barbara Erickson,
administrative director for State
Senator Glenn Hegar, will pro-
vide an update about the issues
their office has been tackling.
All interested parties are wel-
come to attend. Refreshments
will be served following the
meeting.
Quilters to learn triangle
tricks at guild meeting
N ancy Atkinson of Bastrop
will present a program to the
Colorado Valley Quilt Guild
titled "Are We Having Fun
Yet?" A retired computer
programmer, Atkinson is a
member of the Austin Area
Quilt Guild and several bees
in the Bastrop area.
She has been quilting
since 1980 and is an accom-
plished maker of "yo-yo"
motifs, round fabric disks
made to be sewn together.
The meeting, which is
free and open to the public,
will take place at the First
United Methodist Church
in La Grange on Tuesday,
March 25 at 10 a.m.
In the afternoon from 1-
5 p.m., Atkinson will con-
duct a workshop on tricks in
making triangles. A place-
mat project will illustrate the
technique.
Pre-registration and a fee
is required for the workshop.

5971. The workshop is also
at FUMC in La Grange.
New producer's market soon to open
Green building techniques are
being employed to erect Bastrop
Producer's Market just west of town
on Texas 71. The market will be
open five days a week, under roof,
heated and cooled. The business
plans to offer locally grown veg-
etables, fruits, herbs, eggs and other
items.
Farmers may rent bin space
and the owners, Jaeque Gates and
Jim McCracken will keep the bins
stocked.
Structural panels are scheduled
to arrive March 20, with erection as
soon as March 26.

Professional women luncheon set for March 27
The Bastrop Business and
Professional luncheon will be on
March 27 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. in
the Bastrop Public Library's meeting
room.
Speakers this month will be the
candidates for the Bastrop Independent
School District. They will speak and
then guests will have time to ask a few
questions.
Lunch will cost $10 per person.
RSVP by Tuesday, March 25 to Dolores
at 303-6347 or email: cords27@aol.
com so the group will know how many
lunches to prepare.
If you RSVP and something comes
up and you cannot attend, please let us
know by March 26 as we have to pay
the caterer if you do not attend.
The luncheons are open to all who
want to attend and RSVP.
