New Flower Hill Baptist
Church is still standing 92
years after going up July
10, 1915. The church is
at 300 Gentry Street in
Smithville.
Pastor J.R. Roberson has
stepped out in faith and
taken on the responsibilities
of pastoring and re-mold-
ing the church inside and
out. The structure is sim-
ply worn out, with rotten
floors boards, walls with
no studs, broken light fix-
tures, uneven stairs, broken
pipes, bathroom facilities
inoperable and unpleasant
smells. The kitchen appli-
ances need to be replaced,
and the church needs paint-
ing inside and out, secu-
rity lights, landscaping and
trash removal.
In addition the church
has a congregation of elder-
ly women, children and
a few teenage men. That
leaves Roberson to work
things out alone. He is a
self employed contractor.
On March 2, the church
celebrated the pastor's one
year anniversary.
The congregation is
soliciting contributions,
materials, appliances, cabi-
nets and other items.
All men are also invit-
ed to breakfast every third
Saturday of each month at
8 a.m.
For more information,
call Roberson at (512) 601-
1137 or (512) 586-1846.
