honored
Bastrop ISD announced that
Armando Padron, 11th grade
student at Bastrop High School,
has been selected as a 2008
Exemplary Migrant Student
from the University of Texas
at Austin Migrant Student
Graduation Enhancement
Program.
Padron and 39 other migrant
students will be recognized

Austin Migrant Student
Graduation Enhancement
Program.
during the 2008 Exemplary
Migrant Students Ceremony on
March 31. He will also appear
in the 2008 Exemplary Migrant
Students publication, which
will profile his achievements
and the accomplishments of
the other 39 exemplary migrant
students, hi addition, his picture
will appear in Ihe program's
promotional poster.
The mission of the
Migrant Student Graduation
Enhancement Program is to
help Texas migrant students
graduate from high school
by providing opportunities to
earn credit at any time and any
place. They offer 42 distance
learning courses that are
aligned wife the Texas Essential
Knowledge and Skills and
help migrant students prepare
for the Texas Assessment of
Knowledge and Skills.
Since the program
originated in 1987, it has
enrolled approximately 17,000
migrant students. With grant
funding from the Texas
Education Agency and special
project gifts from the Beaumont
Fo undation of America, the
ExxonMobil Foundation, the
John G. Marie Stella Kenedy
Memorial Foundation and
the Microsoft Corporation,
the program provides tools,
services, and courses to help
migrant students achieve and
maintain scholastic levels
equivalent to those of their
classmates who remain in
school throughout the year.
Many of the students in the
program represent the first
high school graduates in their
families and some will go on to
become college graduates.
Textbook adoption
plans
Each school year. school
districts across Texas participate
m the textbook adoption
process. This year, Bastrop
Independent School District
will be adopting new textbooks
for math, grades K-5.
Parents and community
members are invited to
participate in this process. On
March 25, the textbook samples
will be on display for viewing
at the BISD Service Center at
906 Farm Street, from 8 a.m. to
7 p.m. Feedback and comment
forms will be available in the
viewing room.
