The United Slates Achievement
Academy has announced that
Minerva Garza of Rio Grande City
has been named a United States
National Award winner in Science.
This award is a very prestigious
honor veiy few students can ever
hope to attain. In fact, the Academy
recognizes less than 10 percent of
all American high school students.
Minerva Garza, who attends Rio
Grande City High School, was
nominated for this National Award
by Mrs. Noelia Vasquez, a biology
teacher at Rio High School.
Minerva is the daughter of
Rolando and Yolanda Garza
Her name will appear in the
United States Achievement
Academy Official Yearbook,
published nationally.
"Recognizing and supporting our
youth is more important than ever
before in America's history.
Certainly United States
Achievement Academy award
winners should be congratulated and
appreciated for their dedication to
excellence and achievement," said
Dr. George Stevens, Executive
Dircaor of the United States
Achievement Academy.

already include CDA in child
licensing regulations. Others are
considering similar action.
Parents who use child care are
especially concerned today about
iheir children's welfare. Every
candidate for the CDA credential is
observed working with children and
is evaluated by a team which
includes early childhood experts and
a parent. The candidate must
demonstrate ability to work with
families to develop children's
physical and intellectual capabilities
in a safe and healthy learning
environment.
CDA is having a positive effect
on the quality of center-based child
care. CDA's biggest impact may
yet occur with its recent availability
for family day care, the most
common form of care for young
children.
Child care staff and parents
