EDUCATION 4305 TEACHING LANGUAGE ARTS IN THE Education
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
Overview of the language arts. Materials and methods for teaching skills involved
in oral and written communication. The course includes differing
approaches to scheduling and planning activities related to literature, composition,
spelling, grammar usage, punctuation, and handwriting. Fall, spring.
Prerequisite: Junior standing. Three semester hours
EDUCATION 4315 TEACHING SOCIAL STUDIES IN THE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
Emphasis in the course will be placed on the role of the elementary school
teacher in planning, developing, and executing educationally sound approaches
to the teaching of social studies. Students will deal with both traditional and
innovative practices used in providing children with life experiences. Fall, spring.

EDUCATION 4325. TEACHING SCIENCE IN THE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
A study of content, materials, and methods applied to the elementary science
curriculum. Required of students majoring in Elementary Education. Fall, spring.

EDUCATION 4335. CHILDREN'S LITERATURE.
A survey of the literature for primary and elementary levels. Required of
students majoring in Elementary Education. Fall, spring.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
The theory and practice of the reading process is emphasized. Methods of
instruction are evaluated and students are assigned to diagnostic and remedial
situations with elementary children. One hour laboratory required per week.

EDUCATION 4355. TEACHING MATHEMATICS IN THE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
This course emphasizes both the mathematical and the social phases of arithmetic
for making the total process more meaningful to children. Methods of teaching
mathematics are explored and materials of instruction are examined. Fall,
spring.

EDUCATION 4365-4375. STUDENT TEACHING IN THE
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.
Directed observation and participation in the public schools at the elementary
level is required of students majoring in Elementary Education. Fall, spring.

EDUCATION 4370-4380. STUDENT TEACHING IN ALL GRADES.
Directed observation and participation in the public school at both the elementary
