EDUCATION 511. STUDIES AFFECTING SECONDARY EDUCATION.
A survey of current literature on secondary education will be
made. Experimental work in the various phases of secondary education,
including the junior high school, and the senior high
school, is reviewed and evaluated. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 512. PROBLEMS IN SECONDARY SCHOOL ADM\IINISTRATION.
This is a course for graduate students who wish to
know more about the organization and administration of the
secondary school. The course covers the development, legal
status, equipment, instructional force, student body, student activities,
curriculum, records, budgets, and other topics related to
the field. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 513. CURRICULUM ORGANIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT.
This is a course in curriculum orientation, organization and
development. It treats of the nature, derivation, and construction
of the curriculum for the junior and senior high school. Emphasis
is placed upon the selection, value and functions of subject matter
materials as they relate to individual differences and the need of
the child. Individuals and committees will construct and demonstrate
subject matter materials of units, problems, or projects
suited to different levels and needs of the pupil. Three semester
hours.
EDUCATION 514. TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS FOR THE SECONDARY
SCHOOL. The course presents a critical appraisal of measurements
now in use in junior and senior high schools. Principles and
generalizations are developed to guide secondary school teachers
in the construction and use of informal tests and in the selection
and utilization of standardized tests. Each student will carry out a
project in its natural setting so far as is practical. Three semester
hours.
EDUCATION 521. AN INTRODUCTION TO METHODS OF EDUCATIONAL
RESEARCH. This course is intended to afford guidance in
the selection of problems for investigation, in the location of materials,
and in procedures of research such as are needed in the
writing of a thesis or other research report. The writing of a term
paper is required. Three semester hours.
EDUCATION 522. SUPERVISION OF INSTRUCTION. This course in
the techniques of supervision is designed to acquaint prospective
supervisors with the many possible services in aiding teachers in
the improvement of instruction. The democratic approach is employed
with special emphasis upon the cooperative trends in
