BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
B.A. 301. (Formerly 209.) ADVANCED DICTATION. Speed
building; special emphasis given to punctuation and English principles
in transcription. Dictation material will be taken from actual
business letters, articles of current interest, and the Congressional
Record. Three lecture and two laboratory hours per week.
Prerequisite: B.A. 202. Credit: Four semester hours.
B.A. 302. (Formerly 210.) SECRETARIAL PRACTICE. Duties, responsibilities,
and personal qualifications of a secretary; efficiency
in office routine, and office style problems. This course is designed
to prepare the student for actual service as a secretary and
to acquaint teachers of business subjects with office procedure
and practice. Prerequisite: B.A. 201, 202, or consent of instructor.
Credit: Three semester hours.
B.A. 303. (Formerly 214.) BUSINESS CORRESPONDENCE. Opportunity
is provided for developing sound judgment, forcible
expression, and practical psychology in solving various business
problems by letter. Various types of letters are considered and
discussed, including letters of acknowledgment, job application,
credit, sales, collection, and adjustment. Prerequisite: Junior
standing. Credit: Three semester hours.
B.A. 401. (Formerly 213.) TEACHING COIMMERCIAL SUBJECTS.
Aims and objectives, selection and organization of subject matter,
method of presentation, and curriculum development of business
subjects in the secondary school; also, recent trends in business
education. This course is designed for students who expect to
teach business subjects in the secondary school. Can be taken as
Ed. 415. Credit: Three semester hours.
B.A. 403. REPORT WRITING. Uses of reports in business and
industry. Emphasis on basic factors in developing skill in research,
organization of data, techniques of outlining, and mechanics of
form for business reports, term papers, and theses. Credit: Three
semester hours.
GENERAL BUSINESS
B.A. 111. INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS. This course is designed
to present a general survey of the business world, with particular
attention devoted to the place of business in modern society, to
the tools and practices of businessmen, to significant contributions
of the fields of business endeavor, and to special aptitudes and
skills needed by individuals undertaking careers in specialized
business fields. This course will undertake to assist the beginning
student in selecting a major program of study. Credit: Three
semester hours.74
