towns in the Brownwood area.
The library receives a well-selected list of the government
publications which form a valuable asset in education.
McClelland Memorial Library. The Daniel Baker College
Library, named in honor of the founders, Dr. and Mrs. B. T.
McClelland is composed of some twenty thousand volumes and
pamphlets. This library is preserved separate and intact on the
second floor of the stack room of the Walker Memorial Library
Building. Cross filing is given in the general catalogue on the first
floor.
Clarence A. Morton Memorial Library. Friends have made
contribution for the purchase of books to be dedicated to the
late Dr. Clarence A. Morton, a member of the board of trustees.
To this collection will be added many books from the library of
Dr. Morton.
Dr. and Mrs. J. W. McCarver Bible and Philosophy Library.
Dr. and Mrs. J. W. McCarver of Los Angeles, Calif., have created
a fund for the purchase of books in Bible and Philosophy.
Carnegie Library. College students have free access to the
Carnegie Library, which is located only three blocks from the
Administration Building. Courteous attendants are ready to lend
every assistance to the College students in their work.
Sallie Neff Calvert Library Fund. A fund has been created
by relatives and friends of the late Mrs. Sallie Neff Calvert for the
purchase of books on Texas History, Government and Economics.Laboratories: The chemistry and physics laboratories are located
in the Science Hall on Center Avenue. The laboratories are
equipped with ample apparatus and supplies for the usual college
courses. Equipment is added as needed. An effort is made to offer
a wide range of work in chemistry and biology. Students may
major in chemistry and biology. They are accepted by medical
colleges under the standards of the American Medical Association.
Students registering for the regular classes in reading in
Howard Payne College are trained in the diagnostic and remedial
procedures as a part of their laboratory experience. All students
on the campus and all teachers from neighboring schools are
urged to avail themselves of the opportunities presented by the
laboratory in the field of diagnostic testing with instruments and
comprehensive standardized tests. Arrangements may be made
for competent students in the reading laboratory to administer a
series of practical screening tests for visual and auditory acuity.
