BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
Alpha Chi, an honorary scholarship organization, is composed
of students who rank scholastically in the highest ten per cent of
the membership of the junior and senior classes.
Rho Alpha, honorary Christian fine arts fraternity whose
membership includes B average (or above) students whose interest
lie in the fields of music, art, drama and the other arts and
crafts as related to Christian work.
Ex-Students' Association. The Ex-Students' Association was
organized in May, 1908. It has two purposes: First to bring the
graduates and old students together in an annual banquet to
maintain the friendships formed in college; second, to assist the
college authorities in the enlistment of new students and in campaigns
for enlargement.
Future Teachers Association. A local chapter of the Future
Teachers of America has been organized on the Howard Payne
Campus. The first all-state meeting was held at Howard Payne
College in 1948.
Classes. Class organizations are formed on the basis of the
scholastic standing of the students. This information is given by
the Dean of the College at the time of enrollment.
Cen-Tex Aggie Club. A club composed of students who are
studying agriculture. The club sponsors and promotes livestock
judging teams, rodeo teams, and College Ranch Week.
Athletic Council. The Athletic Council is composed of the
Faculty Committee on Athletics. In athletics Howard Payne College
uses rules of the Texas Athletic Conference, of which it is a
member.
Fine Arts Organizations. Opportunity for practical experience
in the applied arts is offered in the Art Club (Alpha Rho
Tau), Curtain Club (Drama), Radio Production Class, Band,
Orchestra, Oratorio Chorus, A Cappella Choir, Men's Glee Club,
Girl's Modern Choir, Light Opera Guild, Madrigal Singers,
Piano Ensemble, Trios, Quartets, and Other Ensembles.
Alpha Rho Tau. The campus Art Club is set up to promote
interest in arts and crafts on our campus and to develop art appreciation.
Field trips, exhibits, and workshops are scheduled during
the year.
Jacket Co-Eds. Organized primarily to promote "that Howard
Payne Spirit," the Co-Eds also try to create a better understanding
among coaches, athletes, and the student body.
Home Economics. Set up to further interest and disseminate
information regarding the opportunities in Home Economics,34
