112/114; and BIOL 112/114, 113/115.
2. Required courses in Agriculture, 25 hrs.: ANSC 111,
252, AGRO 112, 233, RANS 353, AGRB 231, 381,
and AENV 490.
(It is strongly recommended that agribusiness majors
complete ACCT 210, 211, and have proficiency in
microcomputer usage prior to enrolling in a 300 or
400 level Agribusiness course.)
Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness
The BS in Agribusiness combines training in agricultural
economics, business, and technical agriculture. The
curriculum has been planned jointly by the Agriculture and
Business Administration departments. Majors in this area
are prepared for business allied with agriculture, including
banks and other lending agencies, real estate, insurance
companies, farm supply and equipment companies, firms
processing and marketing agricultural products, and public
agencies associated with agriculture.
Departmental requirements for the BS in Agribusiness are
as follows:
1. Required Agriculture courses, 18 hrs.: AGRB 382,
385, 430, 440, 445; and three advanced hours
from AGRB, AGRO, ANSC, RANS or Management
Sciences.
2. Required courses in Business Administration, 9 hrs.:
ACCT 210, 211; BLAW 363.
3. Electives, including deficiency requirements in science
and foreign language, 10 hrs., arranged to ensure 33
advanced hours.
Students considering graduate work should consult
the department chairman before the beginning of the
sophomore year.
Bachelor of Science in Range and Agronomy
ACU's location in natural range country makes range
science a major area of agricultural instruction. In addition
to range land owned by the university, students have access
to other ranches of the area for observation and individual
and group projects.
Agronomy is the theory and practice of crop production
and soil management. Both crop science and soil science
require a good background in the basic sciences. Crop and
range science majors usually elect additional courses in
biology, and soil science majors often choose additional
geology and chemistry courses. Students trained in range
and agronomy have many job opportunities in research,
industry, education, agricultural civil services, and
operating or managing farms or ranches.Departmental requirements for the BS in Range and
Agronomy are as follows:
1. Required Agriculture courses, 17-18 hrs.: RANS
354; AGRO 450, 495, AGRO 479; and AGRO 493
or RANS 498.
2. Electives, including deficiency requirements in science
and foreign language, 9-10 hrs., arranged to ensure
33 advanced hours.
Students considering graduate work or civil service
employment should consult the department chairman
no later than the beginning of the sophomore year.
Bachelor of Science in Animal Science
Majors in animal science get practical experience combined
with classroom laboratory studies to give the kind of
training needed for production and management on the
farm or ranch as well as for advanced scientific study
leading to research or teaching. The university provides
quality livestock for student use in all phases of instruction
of animal science.
Departmental requirements for the BS in Animal Science
are as follows:
1. Required Agriculture courses, 18 hrs.: ANSC 232,
336, 363, 483, 485, and 496.
2. Electives, including deficiency requirements in science
and foreign language, 9 hrs.
Students considering graduate work should consult
the department chairman before the beginning of the
sophomore year.
COOPERATIVE BACHELOR OF
SCIENCE DEGREE
If you plan to teach vocational agriculture in high school,
you may take from two to four years of your work at ACU
and complete the requirements for a Smith-Hughes
Certificate at one of the state universities. Special
arrangements have been made with several universities so
that you may complete the BS degree at ACU and receive
the MS and Smith-Hughes Certificate elsewhere. See the
department chairman for further information.
PRE-VETERINARY MEDICINE
ACU offers the background courses needed prior to
entering a school of veterinary medicine. Some students
have followed this program, transferring at the end of two
or three years. Others choose to complete the BS at ACU
before entering veterinary school. An appropriate major in
this case is Animal Science. See the department chairman
for further information. For Cooperative Bachelor of
Science Degree see specific requirements on pp. 20-21.
