Agronomy
AGRO 112 Principles of Agronomy (2-3-3), spring. Fundamental
factors of climate-soil-plant relations are introduced. Biological processes
in plant germination and growth are explored. Major U.S. and world
crops are surveyed. Lab fee: $35.
AGRO 233 Soil Science (3-3-4), spring. A basic course dealing with
soil types and origin, chemical, physical, and biological properties of soils.
Prerequisites: CHEM 111, 112, 113, 114. Lab fee: $35.
AGRO 450 Soil Fertility and Management (3-3-4), fall. Includes
fertility diagnosis by chemical tests, the use of commercial fertilizers, and
other soil-improving practices to increase the productivity of the soil.
Prerequisite: AGRO 233. Lab fee: $35.
AGRO 479 Soil and Natural Resource Conservation (2-3-3),
spring. Addresses the economic management of soil and other natural
resources, including water, forests, grasslands, and wildlife. Prerequisites:
AGRB 231; AGRO 233. Lab fee: $35.
AGRO 493 Food and Fiber Crops (2-3-3), fall, even years. Recent
advances in the production and improvement of the major agronomic
crops. Particular attention is given to cotton and grain crops.

AGRO 495 Agricultural Chemicals and Environment (2-3-3), fall.
Commercial compounds used in agriculture, including herbicides,
pesticides, additives, and fertilizers. Use categories, toxicity levels, safety
standards, storage, and disposal. EPA regulations and environmental
hazards. Prerequisites: AGRO 112; CHEM 111, 112, 113, 114. Lab
fee: $35.
Range
RANS 353 Range and Pasture Plants (3-3-4), fall. Identification,
classification, grazing and economic value of native and introduced forage
plants. Injurious plants and their control. Pasture revegetation and
management. Prerequisites: AGRO 112; BIOL 112/114, 113/115. Lab
fee: $35.
RANS 354 Range Science (3-3-4), spring, odd years. The study of
planned range use in order to obtain the maximum livestock production
while at the same time properly using the grasslands of our country.
Range utilization studies, methods of reseeding range land and the study
of improvement techniques. Prerequisite: RANS 353. Lab fee: $35.
RANS 397 Range Livestock Management (2-3-3), fall, alternate
years. The interrelation of climate, soils, vegetation, and man to range
management livestock production. Problems concerning range
conditions, stocking rate and other management situation under ranch
conditions. Visits to outstanding ranches in the area will be made. Lab
fee: $35.RANS 404 Arid Lands Biology (3-3-4), fall, even years. Introduction
to physiological and morphological adaptations of the flora and fauna of
arid environments. Laboratory graded and credited with the course.
Same as BIOL 404. Course fee: $35.
RANS 455 Wildlife Management (3-3-4), fall, odd years. Principles
of animal ecology; life histories, economic and management phases of
important species of big game, upland game, waterfowl, and fish.
Recommended for animal science, range management, and biology
majors of junior or senior standing. Laboratory graded and credited with
the course. Same as BIOL 455. Lab fee: $35.
RANS 482 Advanced Wildlife Biology (3-3-4), spring, even years.
Technical methods employed in wildlife management, including
production movements, effects on environment, cover manipulation,
population controls, management of food supplies, harvesting procedures,
competition, surveying, and predation. Laboratory graded and credited
with the course. Lab fee: $35.
RANS 498 Range Ecology (3-3-4), fall, odd years. Physical features
affecting the use of range vegetation; field classification of range grasses
and range plants. Mapping, surveying and conducting range ecological
studies. Designed for students desiring to work in the field of range
management. Actual problems will be assigned in the field.
Prerequisites: RANS 353, 354. Lab fee: $35.
RANS 499 Advanced Range Science (3-3-4), spring, even years.
Research methods on range management problems. Students will be
assigned field problems to work out on their own initiative, and will also
help plan range programs in native grassland management. Prerequisite:
RANS 498. Lab fee: $35.

AENV 130 Environmental and Technological Science (3-0-3), fall,
spring. A study of environmental and technological sciences including
natural resources and the impact of modern technology on the human
environment. Same as ITEC 130. Course fee: $10.
AENV 400 Guided Study (3-0-3),* on demand.
AENV 490 Agriculture Seminar (2-0-2), spring. Review and
discussion of current literature and research in the field. Prerequisite:
Senior standing.
