Demonstration School
The Demonstration School of Abilene Christian College consists
of all grades from the first through the twelfth grade of the high
school. The school serves as a unit of the educational laboratory
and makes it possible to demonstrate the relation between educational
theory, as taught in the college classroom, and practice in
the elementary and secondary grades. Students in education are
given opportunities for observation and practice teaching under
the direction of trained and experienced critic teachers.
Organization
This department has its courses arranged in five divisions as
follows:
1. Division of Elementary Education.
2. Division of Secondary Education.
3. Division of Administration.
4. Division of Psychology and Philosophy.
5. Division of Christian Education.
The course in pure psychology and those in Christian education
may not be counted as courses in education in meeting the requirements
for a teacher's certificate.
Requirements for Teachers Certificates
1. Students who desire to secure the six-year elementary certificate
at the end of the sophomore year should take Education 311,
312, 331, 332; Bible 311, 312; English 311, 312, 321, 322; Art 313, 314;
Music 321, 322; Physical Education 321, 332; General Science six
hours; Government six hours.
2. Students expecting to apply for the four-year high school -
certificate at the end of the sophomore year should take Education
321 and 322 in addition to 311 and 312.
3. Students desiring the six-year high school certificate at the
end of the junior year or the permanent state certificate at the
end of the senior year must take Education 490.
Students Electing Elementary Education As a Major
Students who select elementary education as a major and who
do not intend to begin teaching until after graduation from college
should not take the course in government until the junior year. If
the six year elementary certificate is ordered upon the completion
of the junior year, the last year in college may be counted as one
year of successful teaching. This procedure will make it possibleCourses of Instruction
