General Information is
standard college work. It is permited to give certificates, both
temporary and permanent, the colleges are permitted to issue under
Texas law.
Campus And Buildings
On the campus, consisting of thirty-five acres, are eight fire-proof
buildings, completed at a cost of approximately $450,000. The Administration
Building, the Education Building, the Fine Arts and
Auditorium Building, the Bennett Gymnasium, and the Utility
Building comprise the working plant for the college. The Men's
Dormitory has accommodations for one hundred and fifty. The Women's
Dormitory has accommodations for one hundred and fifty. In
Chambers, a three-story building, the dining hall and kitchen are
located on the first floor, the library on the second, and room for
light house keeping on the third. All these buildings are equipped
with modern conveniences, insuring the best in comfort and service
to the students. The parlors of the Women's Dormitory provide an
ideal place for entertainments and other gatherings for students and
faculty.
Library
The college library, located on the main floor of Chambers Hall,
is conveniently accessible to all parts of the campus. It is staffed
with a trained personnel and is equipped with a thirty-tray card
catalogue, adequate means of display, and one hundred and fifty
carefully selected periodicals among which are educational and religious
journals, fine arts and recreational magazines. The accessions
number over 15,000 volumes. The volumes are not just a haphazard
accumulation of books, but are those which have been carefully selected
by Christian men and trained librarians. The reading room
is sufficiently large to accommodate 25 per cent of the student body
at any period of the day.
Worship
Chapel Exercises.-Once each day the students assemble for
chapel exercises. The programs consist of hymns, readings from the
Bible, prayers, and earnest, inspiring talks by faculty members and
visitors.
Church Service.-Students are urged to bring with them their
church letters and to associate themselves actively in the local
church work and worship. All are expected to attend church services
regularly Sunday morning and night. In addition to these regular
preaching services, they are invited to the Bible School Sunday
mornings at 9:45 and to the prayer and praise services Wednesday
nights.
Special Meetings.-In both the fall and spring semesters, a
series of Gospel metings is held under the direction of the elders of
the College congregation. Many students obey the Gospel during
these meetings. In the spring semester, the last week in February
is devoted to lectures on Bible themes, delivered by representative
men of the Church.
Religious Opportunities
It is the aim of Abilene Christian College to put Christianity
first. All students in College and Demonstration School study the
Bible. In fact, students are required to do more work in Bible thanGeneral Information
