General Information 17
The C Club.-All athletes who win letters are members of the C
Club.
The Dramatic Club.-This Club meets each week under the direction
of the teachers of Speech Arts. Short plays and other numbers
are given.
The Press Club.-Students evidencing marked ability and interest
in college journalism are elected to membership in the Press
Club. The staff of The Optimist is elected from its members.
The Pickwickians.-An organization for development in creative
writing, in poetry, in essay, in short story.
Musical Organizations.-The musical organizations, open to all
who can qualify, are: A Cappella Chorus, Men's Quartet, Girls' Sextet,
Band, and String Ensemble.
The A Cappella Chorus, Men's Quartet, Girls' Sextet, and the
band make tours each year to programs at various places throughout
the country. These organizations make many other short trips
to render programs for many groups and occasions. Their services
are in demand and the members enjoy them equally as much.
The Band.-Band membership is obtained through the director.
Some members are allowed a discount on tuition charges, the amount
allowed is determined and recommended by the director. All
students interested in band membership are requested to write
D. W. Crain, Station A, Abilene, Texas.
Language Clubs.-Students of foreign languages, Latin, Spanish
French, and German, have the privilege of membership in S. P. Q.
R., Los Alegres, L'Alliance Francaise, and the German Club respectively.The Gavel.-This is an organization of students who are interested
in debate, oratory, and general forensics. The club meets
twice each month, at which time practice debates and various numbers
from the department of public speaking are given on the program.
Freshmen, as well as upperclassmen, are eligible to membership
in this organization.
