ACADEMY
The College no longer offers Academy work, except during the
Summer School, and that is especially to enable students from unaffiliated
schools to enter College.
VOCATIONAL BUSINESS COURSE
Daniel Baker College feels that there are two distinct types of
business education needed. One is along the lines of higher accounting,
banking, insurance, economic and trade problems, and
we have begun to develop that line in the College. The other is
a one.year course, and emphasizes the Stenographic and Clerical
type, with a variety of courses such as we give in our Vocational
Business Coures.
PENMANSHIP.
This department is presided over by a man with many years'
experience as penman and teacher. Our students are taught to
write a neat, plain, rapid hand, for business. No employer wants
an assistant who cannot write rapidly and well. One of the best
recommendations an applicant for a position in a business office can
have is a good style of penmanship. Proficiency in this matter is
indispensable to success in any clerical position.
SPELLING.
This subject in this institution is given the attention it merits.
We teach it in the most practical way. Words of every-day use are
brought before the student's mind in such a way that by the time
he completes the course of study, he has no trouble in spelling or
pronouncing the words in common use. Special emphasis is placed57
