COURSES OF INSTRUCTION
This course is offered as a substitute in Freshman year for
Mathematics 11.20.
Textbook.-Hawkes' College Algebra.
MATHEMATICS 2.-ANALYTIC GEOMETRY.
Fall, Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
This course includes the study of the straight line and the circle
in rectangular and in polar co-ordinates; the curve and the equation;
transformation of co-ordinates, and a short study of conics.
The last half of the spring term will be devoted to an introduction
to the differential calculus.
Textbook.-Smith and Gale, Analytic Geometry.
MATHEMATICS 3.-CALCULUS.
Advanced Course. Fall, Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
This course is an introduction to the study of the processes of
differentiation and integration, and of some of their applications.
The topics studied will include tangents and normals, maxima and
minima. areas of plane curves, volumes of solids of revolution, fluid
pressure, etc.
Prerequisite.-Mathematics 1 and 2, or their equivalent.
Textbook.-Granville, Differential and Integral Calculus.
PHILOSOPHY
PHILOSOPHY 11.-PSYCHOLOGY.
Advanced Course. Fall. Three Hours a Week.
The course is a simple study of the physiology of the sense
organs and the nervous system, and the fundamental processes and
laws of the mental life.
