MATHEMATICS
MATHEMATICS 11.-SOLID GEOMETRY.
This course will cover Books 6, 7, 8 and 9, as given in any
standard text. Numerous exercises to encourage original thought
are required, and the construction and study of models of the most
important figures of the text. Logical completeness of proof is
insisted upon even more strongly than in plane geometry, and much
attention is given to the solution of exercises in calculation.
Textbook.-Elements of Geometry, Wentworth and Smith.
MATHEMATICS 12.-COLLEGE ALGEBRA.
Fall. Three Hours a Week.
This course is the Fall term only of Mathematics 1, College
Algebra, and is offered as a substitute for Mathematics 11. Solid
Geometry.
Textbook.-Hawkes' College Algebra.
MATHEMATICS 20.-PLANE TRIGONOMETRY.
Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
This course will include a review of logarithms, solution of right
and oblique triangles, problems in height and distances, properties
of triangles, and radian measure. The work will be conducted
throughout so as to show the practical application of this branch of
Mathematics, and to this end many practical problems will be
given.
Prerequisite.-Course 11 or 12.
MATHEMATICS 1 COLLEGE ALGEBRA.
Fall, Winter and Spring. Three Hours a Week.
This course includes a rapid review of the laws and operations
of elementary algebra, after which it takes up such subjects as
quadratic equations, the progressions, the binomial theorem, permutations
and combinations, theory of equations, and logarithms. The
very important notion of curve plotting is developed.52
