Open to students who have completed Course 1, or equivalent.
Grammar is reviewed and continued. Composition and Conversation.
A literary appreciation of the works read is striven for.

Fall, Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
This course is intended to give the student an introduction to
the German classics. At least one work each of Goethe, Schiller
and Lessing is read. Composition is based on original themes.
Conversation is continued.
Prerequisite.-German 1.
Texts.-Schiller, Die Jungfrau von Orleans or Wilhalm Tell;
Goethe, Egmont or Herman and Dorothea; Lessing, Emilia Galotti
or Nathan der Weis.

Advanced Course.Fall, Winter, Spring. Three Hours a Week.
The life and works of Heine, with a comparison of the works
of contemporary poets.
Prerequisite.-German 2.
