For students who expect to specialize in the Natural Sciences or
to study medicine.
Prerequisite.-German A and German 1.
Textbooks.-Scientific German Reader, Revised Edition; Dippold.
An elementary German text in Physics, an elementary German text
in Chemistry.
GREEK
GREEK 50.-ELEMENTARY.
Fall, Winter, Spring. Daily.
The work of this course consists of an extensive study of forms,
syntax and constructions, as outlined in the text. Daily written
exercises illustrative of the principles set forth in each lesson, and
weekly review exercises of a similar nature are required. As early
as possible, extracts from fables and ancient folk-lore will be read.
During the Spring Term, Book I of the Anabais is read, and a
complete review of the First Greek Book is made.
Texts.-First Greek Book, White; First Greek Reader, Moss;
Xenophon's Anabasis, Goodwin and White.
GREEK 11--XENOPHON.
Fall. Three Hours a Week.
Books II IV of the Anabasis-are read. Inflections and syntax
are emphasized throughout this course, due attention being given to
the idioms and special construction of Xenophon. Advanced grammar
work is done in connection with prose translations from English
to Greek. Term themes relating to Xenophon's life works, and
the times during which he lived, are required.
Prerequisite.-Greek 50.
Texts.-Xenophon's Anabasis, Goodwin and White; Greek Gramn
mar, Goodwin; Greek Prose Composition, Pearson.44
