Annette Moreno, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Amadeo Moreno, Jr., of Los Saenz finished third
alternate in the Winter Wonderland Miss Pageant in
Raymondville on Friday. Recently, she was crowned as
Tiny Miss Starr County. Her hobbies include swimming,
and collecting dolls.
4-H Clubs Plan
Float, Party
"4-H, International Friendship"
will be the theme for the float to be
sponsored by the Starr Grande 4-H
Club in the Starr County Christmas
parade this Saturday. 4-H members
will decorate and ride on the float,
along with Club Sweetheart and
Beau Lori Peterson and Eden
Lopez.
The 4-H Clubs will also sponsor
concession stands at the Starr
County Fairgrounds after the
parade during the first annual
Lamb and Steer Prospect Show, to
be attended by youth from
throughout the area. The public is
invited to attend this event, with a
cookoff and other activities also
planned for the afternoon.
The Starr Grande Club will hold
its regular December meeting on
Monday, December 14 at 6:30, with
their Christmas party to follow the
meeting. Everyone is bringing
refreshments and games to make
the event a gala one.
Leading the club this year are
the following officers: Lori
Peterson, president; Douglas An-
derson and Azeneth Flores, vice-
presidents; Ronnie Alaniz, treasur-
er; Maritza Montalvo and Isela
Guerrero, secretaries; Guy
Peterson, reporter; Marc Montalvo
and Ryan Guillen, attendance of-
ficers, Annette Flores, parliamen-
tarian; Sara Narro, Douglas An-
derson, Guy Peterson, Annette
Flores, Azeneth Flores, Ryan
Guillen, and Lori Peterson, county
council delegates; and Sixto
Flores, recreation leader.
LVN Graduation
Graduation ceremonies for the
current class of Licensed Voca-
tional Nurses (LVN's) at Starr
County Memorial Hospital are
scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at
the Multi-Purpose Center.

The annual Christmas Posadas
will be celebrated throughout the
community from Dec. 16 to Dec. 24.
Father Todd Arnberg, O.M.I.,
pastor of the local Catholic com-
munity, invites everyone to attend
and participate in the Posadas.

Sheriff's Posse To
Hold Youth Day

The Starr County Sheriff's Posse
will be holding their first annual
Youth Fun Day on Saturday, Dec.
12 at 1 p.m. at the Sheriff's Posse
Arena in Rio Grande City.
Activities will consist of barrel
racing, pole bending, and boot
racing for three age groups - ages
0-7, 8-12, and 13-16.
There will also be calf roping for
persons ages 10-18. and goat roping
activities lor persons 10-18. There
will be horse control activities for
persons of all ages.
There will be goat mitring
contests, with teams consisting of
one boy and one girl; goat
branding activities with teams of
three (with one person of the
opposite sex).
The cost will be $2 per event per
child, and $10 per team (18 years
and under).
Rope bags, spurs, and ropes will
be donated for team roping.

Joelda Alvarez, the five-year-old daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Tony Alvarez was recently crowned Little Miss
Starr County. She attends Ringgold Elementary where
she is a pre-kindergarten student. She enjoys going to
school, singing, and dancing, but mostly she enjoys fun
activities with her sisters, Judith andjulissa.

Food Pantry Accepting
Applications For FEMA Monies
The Starr County Food Pantry
announces that they will be accep-
ting applications (394) for food
boxes of commodities.
If any person was served with
FE1MA monies in April or Sep-
tember 1987, they cannot qualify
again.
The Pantry will begin taking
applications on Thursday, Dec. 10.
Applications will be taken from 9 to
11 a.m., on Mondays thru
Thursdays.
Anyone with questions about the
income eligibility requirements and
guidelines should call the Food (
Pantry at 487 3052.
2 Rattlers Make
All- Valley Football Squad
Two Rio Grande City Rattler
football players have been named
to the 1987 All-Valley team
Senior Rattler running back
Bobby Garcia was an obvious
selection, due to the fact that he
rushed for 1517 yards to finish a
strong fourth in Texas 5-A rushing
statistics. He also scored 10
touchdowns and broke for gains of
30 or more yards nine times. (
The other Rattler on the All-
Valley team was senior offensive
guard Aaron Garcia, a 210-pounder
who was also named to the first
team of the31-5A All-District team.
Festive Events At
Palito Blanco
Recently, at Palito Blanco
Headstart, the children invited
their parents for Thanksgiving
dinner.
The children dressed as Pilgrims
and Indians, and performed a skit
for their parents. Special guests
were Mr. Homero Carrera, handi-
capped coordinator; and Mrs.
Rocky Austin, speech therapist.
Before that, a Halloween contest
was held at Palito Blanco. Cynthia
Molina and Gloria Villarreal
served as judges,
First place went to Alexandra
Carrion, daughter of Mr and Mrs.
Santiago Carrion; second place to
Juan de Dios Leal, son of Mr and
Mrs. Israel Leal; and third place to
Denise Escamilla, daughter of Mr
and Mrs Daniel Escamilla
Afterwards, the children
trick or-treated around the circle
apartments. Teachers and parents
accompanied the group A big {
pinata party followed back at the
center
Roma Special Ed Competes
Al Bowling Tourney

The Roma ISD Special Education
students recently competed at the
Area I Special Olympics Bowling
Tournament at Mission, and
achieved good results
