McMurry will be
hosting a GraduateProfessional
School Day on Tuesday October
28. It will be in Braniff Lounge
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The
University of North Texas
TExas A&M Texas Tech and
the University of Texas at
Arlington are just a few of the
colleges that will be attending.
On November 4 we will
be having a Resume Workshop.
This is an opportunity to learn
what you need on your resume
and how to design it. This
workshop will be held in the
Village Market meeting room
from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Please
come by the Career Services

The old traditions mix with new faces
at McMurry 's Homecoming -1997

Each school year
McMurry Student Government
and the Alumni Association
work together in creating an
entire activities program to
welcome all of the former
students who return to
McMurry's Homecoming. This
is one of the biggest if not THE
biggest traditions here at
McMurry. Activities start on the
Thursday prior to the weekend
beginning with theSunset
Ceremony and the Tipi Raising
Contest in Wah Wahtaysee Park.
At Tipi Village various social
clubs including the freshman
Board of Trustees on campus October 9 and 10

On October 9 and
101997 the Board of Trustees
met for their first meeting of the
academic school year. Trustees
faculty students and alumni
comprise the Board of Trustees.
The board is responsible for the
financial health and long-term
stability of McMurry. They are
the official governing body of
the university either appointed
officially or elected by the Board
of Trustees and by two

class erect their individual tipis.
These clubs all rpresent indi-
vidual Indian Tribes and they
share their tribe's culture and
past history with thousands of
elementary school students
bussed in from schools in
Abilene and the surrounding
area. Awards are given at the
football game on Saturday for
the most authentic tipi. This is a
can't-miss activity here on
campus. Another big tradition at
McMurry is the annual Home-
coming musical preceding the
Coronation of Chief and
Princess McMurry. This year's
musical "Fiddler on the Roof"
Conferences of the Methodist
Church.
The Board of Trustees
reviewed last year's audit. It
officially confirms all
appointments of faculty and staff
since the last meeting in March.
A new mission statement was
adopted by the faculty. Basically
a mission statement states
McMurry's purpose as a
university. Task forces discussed
were housing and inter-
collegiate athletics. The Board of
Trustees accepted a proposal for

is a widely anticipatad musical.
Students taking part in this
production have been working
very hard since the beginning of
the school year. After the
Coronation and musical the
beating of the Tom-Tom drum
begins in Radford and then
moves to Wah Wahtaysee Park.
Members of the freshman class
continue the beating throughout
the night and eventually end it at
the football game that Saturday.
The annual Homecoming
football game is yet another big
activity throughout the weekend.

an inter-collegiate track team for
men and women. The proposal
will come into effect in the next
academic school year. These
task forces will be reported on in
the next Board of Trustees
meeting scheduled for March.
The board also discussed
proposals received for a new
computer network telephone
system and distance learning
facility for the campus. "People
need to recognize the individuals
on the board are very successful
in their careers and choose to
