Palacios Area Historical Association

Incorporated in 1982 as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the City of Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas, the Palacios Area Historical Association (PAHA) operates the City by the Sea Museum. It is supported by grants and donations, as well as the generosity of volunteers who serve as docents, event organizers, exhibit designers, and collection managers.

The Palacios Library

On June 15, 1910, 20 women organized and opened the Palacios Library. By the end of the year, it contained 104 members, 325 books, and $150 in the treasury. A narrowly framed building which was once the town box ball alley originally housed the Library. A Tocker Foundation grant aided in digitization efforts.

Palestine Public Library

Located in Anderson County, the Palestine Public Library provides access to information and various programs for the community's benefit. They received a Rescuing Texas History grant to aid in digitization of select materials, including photos taken during a Historic Resources Study in 1991.

Palo Alto College

Palo Alto College is a publicly funded, two-year community college serving the needs of predominately Hispanic students, many of whom are from low income families and educationally underserved. Palo Alto College’s opening was the realization of a community dream to build an institution of higher learning in the historically educationally underserved south side of San Antonio. Located in the Ozuna Library, the Palo Alto College Archives ensures the access and long-term care of historically significant materials.

Palo Pinto County Historical Association

The Palo Pinto County Historical Association is a nonprofit that documents and preserves materials regarding county history since 1890. It is comprised of county commissioners court members and commission-nominated delegates. The Association contains four committees: History Appreciation, Marker, Archaeology, and Oral History.

Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum

The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum opened in 1933 to showcase the artifacts, art, and archives that document the history and culture of the Texas Panhandle and surrounding plains regions. The Museum is located at the West Texas A&M University campus in Canyon.

Panola College is a community college institution located in the East Texas town of Carthage. The M.P. Baker Library at the school is dedicated to offering resources and services to enhance the development of the whole student body and to offer opportunities for students to become lifelong learners.

In 1952, Boerne citizens created the Boerne Public Library. In 2011, the city added the Patrick Heath Public Library, which provides programming and cultural enrichment, local history archives, and stands as a community center.

Located on the Navarro College campus in Corsicana, the Pearce Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the history of the Civil War. Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Library and Hall of Fame

In 1975, Midland community members under the leadership of George T. Abell created the Museum to tell the story of petroleum and the lives of the people in the industry through history. Today, the Museum is the largest museum dedicated to the petroleum industry and its pioneers in the nation.

The Pharr Memorial Library strives to promote the love of reading and serves as a gateway to knowledge for the Pharr community in South Texas. The Library received a Rescuing Texas History grant to aid digitization efforts.

Philosophical Society of Texas

Originally founded in 1837 by noted Texas figures including Sam Houston and Mirabeau B. Lamar, the Philosophical Society of Texas was revived in 1937 at the time of the Texas Centennial as a membership discussion group. Toward that end, the Society holds an Annual Meeting for its members to host a focused discussion on a primary topic of relevance to Texas, ranging from politics, history, and the arts to education and the natural world. Since 1937, the Proceedings of each meeting are printed and distributed to members and publicly available through university and college libraries statewide and online, fulfilling the Society's pledge to support the “collection and diffusion of knowledge.”

Private Collection of E. M. Adams

Born in 1927 in Wheelock, Estelle Mitchell Adams is the last surviving grandchild of Georgia slaves who came to Texas in 1895. Her private collection is meant to preserve and share her memories of the cultural and historical details of the African-American citizens who helped to develop the town of Wheelock and Robertson County.

Private Collection of CC Cox

Edith Virginia Cox Cooper, born 1909, inherited the personal and business papers of her father, Charles Claiborne Cox, who founded the town of Splendora, Texas. In turn, Edith left the papers to her daughter, Nina Ruth Cooper, who recognized their importance as a piece of early Texas history, providing insight into the settlement of early Texas. With the help of her niece (Edith’s granddaughter), Connie Cooper Henderson, Nina arranged for their preservation.

Andy went on to serve during the Korean War and study engineering at The University of Houston where he met his wife, Wilma Sue Litzler née Louis. In addition to his job as an engineer at General Dynamics in Fort Worth, Texas Andy loved to spend his time woodworking and researching genealogy.
