Anderson County Historical Commission

Originally part of David G. Burnet's colony, the county formed in 1846 and named after Kenneth L. Anderson, Vice President of the Republic of Texas from 1844 until annexation. Arkansas State Archives

One of the oldest existing state agencies in Arkansas, the Arkansas State Archives was created as the Arkansas History Commission (AHC) by the Arkansas General Assembly in 1905 to serve as the official archives of the state. Founded in 1849, this private liberal arts college first opened its doors in Huntsville and is the oldest institution of higher education in Texas still operating under its original name and charter.
