Let's PreRegister!
As the second semester' of each school year rolls around
ACC students go through a second session of mass confusion
registration. Why can't ACC students pre-register and
avoid much of this bother?
ACC already has a limited pre-registration In some areas.
Freshmen students who attend the summer orientation ses-
sion are allowed to pre-reglster. Students who work are al-
lowed to reserve spaces in their classes which is a form of
pre-registration. Why couldn't this be extended to the entire
student body?
There is a good deal of repetition in the first and second
semester registrations getting a post office box meal ticket
residence" card I.D. card validation and chapel seat; register-
ing car; and paying class dues. Much of this could be done at
the first of the year. For example how many students change
their post office box numbers?
There are many different methbds of pre-registration and
a special study would have to be made to see which was best
for ACC. However forms of pre-registration have been used
in schools from small private colleges to big state universi-
ties'. Why not ACC?

Speed Is in His Heart
Gasoline in His Veins
By JAMES STORM
The asphalt Is soft and pliant
as it yields to the blistering rays
of the summer afternoon sun.
Gentle gusts of wind scatter then
mingle gasoline vapor and car-
bonus exhaust fumes. Pretty girls
laugh and flirt with boys in
grease covered levis. V-8 engines
churn and roar the crowd claps
and cheers excitedly and above
the din a loud speaker drones
constantly heralding names
numbers and cars. It's a typical
joyously noisy Sunday afternoon
at the drags.
For Steve Lambert ACC sen-
ior it all began with an interest
in mechanics a blown up car
and a great deal of spare time.
He was a sophomore in Odessa
High School when he bought the
old Chevrolet It was a 1950 mod-
el with a chipped green two-tone
paint job and it ran well at first.
The motor was the original six
cylinder meant for driving at a
casual pace. One day Lambert
pushed it too hard and found
himself the owner of a useless
hemorrhaging motor with its guts
hanging out. The .car. had thrown
a rod.
Rebuilding
The body and transmission
were still in fine working order
so with money from his paper
route Lambert began rebuild-
ing. A month or so later the car.
emerged sporting a set of new
tires a glistening coat of white
paint and a powerful 1057 Cor-
vette motor.
The car ran well and Lambert
couldn't resist racing other boys
and 'their cars. But warnings and
tickets from the police taught
him that the highway was no
place to drag so his mounting
interest in dragging turned him
to the tracks around Odessa. He
