The Wildcat cngers open their
Southland Conference play to-
morrow night in Bennett Gym-
nasium against a strong agrega-
tion of Arkansas State Indians.
ACC goes into the game sport-
ing an 8-3 record while Arkansas
State has an equally impressive
7-2 record. The Wildcats have
been defeated by Kentucky Wes-
leyan Western Kentucky and
New Mexico State.
The Indians have been turned
under by Southeast Oklahoma
and Miami of Ohio.
Leading the Arkansas State
attack is John Dickson a 6-11
junior who is averaging over 18
points per game and is leading
the Southland Conference in re-
bounding with a 14.5 rebounds
per game average.
Also standing out for the Ind-
ians is hustling guard Larry
Tredwell a 0-1 k senior whose
specialty is defense.
Then Monday night at ACC the
Wildcats take on the Redbirds
from Lamar Tech in a Confer-
ence tilt.
The Cardinals fly into the
game with ten wins tucked under
their wings while losing only to
Florida State and twice to power-
house Midwestern.
Leading the way for the Card-
inals is 6-3 Nelson Bruce a sen-
ior averaging 16 points per game.
Not far behind Bruce is 6-3 Jack
Lynch a senior guard averaging
nearly 15 points per game.
Lamar Tech has averaged 87
points per game and has given up
an average of only 74 points per
game.

The Women's Recreational As-
sociation's basketball team will
participate in the First Howard
County Junior College Invita-
tional Basketball Tournament at
Big Springs this weekend.
Their first game will be against
San Angelo College at 5 p.m.
Friday.
Probable starting lineup for
the ACC team will be: forwards
Patty Burnam; Reld Okla. fresh-
man; and Joyce Scott Stratford
junior; guards Gail Day O'Brian
sophomore; and Wanda Hlggins
Hermileigh junior; starting rov-
ers Tippy Brown Vega junior;
and Jerita Michials Rochester
sophomore.
Other players who will
see plenty of action in the two-
day tournament are: Patty
Browning Vega junior; Stacey
Vinson Lueders freshman; Bev-
erly Hogg Castleberry freshman;
Nicki Boff Winters sophomore;

Joyce Curtis of the P.E. depart-
ment. The WRA team has a 3-1 re-
cord going into the tournament.
They lost their first game to
H-SU 20-37 and beat Lueders
High School 80-42 and Weather-
ford'Collcge 74-39.
Tippy Browning is the leading
scorer with a 13 point average
in four games Patty Burnam Is
right behind with 14 points in
two games. Joyce Scott has 11
for four games. The team has
made 63 of its free-throw at-
tempts. Collegiate girls basketball
rules differ somewhat from high
school rules. The main differ-
ence involves two" roving play-
ers who play both guard and
forward. This develops a more
highly skilled player for any
player may be Involved in the
roving. There Is also a limited
dribble which speeds up the game
and develops good passing skills.

Abilene Christian College's
surging Wildcats were ranked
among the nation's top ten small-
college basketball teams accord
ing to ratings recently released
by both the Associated Press and
the United Press International.
ACC was ranked ninth of AP
and 10th by the UPI.
In addition David Wray the
Wildcat's' 6-7 junior scoring ace
is presently ranked seventh in
field goal accuracy across the
nation. The Abilene High pro-
duct has netted 48 of 75 attempts
from the floor before the New
Mexico State game for a torrid
04.0 percentage. ACC's team
field goal percentage of 53.3
ranks eighth in the nation.
Flying Cats
Win Meet
The Flying Cats won the most
team points in the "10 and aver-
age" division of the recent Mid-
land Invitational Meet before
the holidays.
Representing 'ACC were Ray
Albridge Boyd Clayton Jeof-
fery Moore and Mike Spcnce.
Awards won by each gymnast
were: Jeoffery Moore first In-
side horse tumbling floor exer-
cise and second in trampolines
and vaulting.
Boyd Clayton second in tumb-
ling and third in trampoline
vaulting and floor exercise;
Ray Albridge third in paral-
lel bars fourth in steel rings
and fifth in long horse vault;
Mike Spcnce fourth In floor
exercise.
Other teams participating were
Big Springs YMCA Sam Hous-
ton State College and Houston
YMCA.
