Parent's Day offers a variety of activities
A tentative schedule has beer
announced for Parent's Day
Nov. 7.
The day will begin with registra-
tion at 9 a.m. In the lobby of Moody
Center and students should make
sure their parents check in with the
student congress representlves
located in the lobby at that time.
At 9:30 the Hardin-Simmons Stu-
dent Foundation will present a pro-
gram for the parents and the event
will be followed by a special
Parent's Day program in Behren's
Chapel. The program is set to
begin at 10:30.
A special barbeque is schedule
for the noon hour. The traditional
Parent's Day meal will be served
outside beside the university's
reflection pool.
Coffees and teas will be held by
many campus organizations and
clubs on Saturday afternoon. A
complete schedule of these events
was not available at press time.
Also during the afternoon
parents may tour the campus
through guided tours. The tours
will be held from 1-4 p.m. and in the
evening the second performance
of the the All-School Sing will take
place. The Sing Is scheduled to
begin at 7:30.
The traditional dorm decorating
contest will once again be held
this year with this year's theme be-
ing "Close Encounters of the
Roommate Kind." Each dorm will
be expected to create an out of
this world roommate to adorn the
front of the dorm.
Prizes are being awarded In the
contest by the Hardin-Simmons
Student Congress. The dorm win-
ing first place will receive $60
while the second place dorm will
receive $45. A prize of $35 will be
awarded to the third place dorm in
the contest.

Becky Jo Allred brought in 81
Day spring ministers
To HSU and Abilene
Dayspring is a fine arts team
from Hardin-Simmons University
whose purpose is to share the
gospel of Jesus Christ to others.
The group ministers through sing-
ing puppets and drama.
In the past year this fine arts team
has shared with churches
schools a department store during
Christmas and In chapel. The
group derived its name from the
scripture passage in Luke 1:78
where Jesus is referred to as the
"Dayspring."
Dayspring is composed of the
following people for 1981-82: Ken
Montgomery director; Jan Cullen
pianist; Jeff Ritchey drummer.
Vocalist are Denise Beale Jana
Stuard Beth Polk David Haley
Tod McMann and James Versyp.
votes from her freshmen peers to
soundly defeat Jimmy Pogue In the
race for president of the freshman
class. Pogue was 14 votes behind
Allred with 67 votes.
In another heated race Leaslle
Holler defeated April Nevill for the
office of Freshman Class vice
president. Nevill was able to
gather 67 votes but she was over-
powered by Hollers who pulled in
82 votes.
During the run-off one other
battle was settled. Mark Lamb and
Lori Rozzell had been pitted
against one another in a race to
become a sophomore class
representative. When the ballots
had been counted Rozzell turned
out to be the winner defeating
Lamb by 17 votes. Rozzell won with
61 votes compared to Lambs 44.
Now that the election has
finally been completed the new of-
ficers and representatives have
been sworn in. They will now be
serving the students and the will
face several tough decisions in the
coming months.

Courtney a poet playwright and
actor has worked with noted Com-
poser Buryl Red on several pro-
jects including musical dramas
such as "Hello World" "Celebrate
Life" and "Beginnings."
Courtney also wrote and nar-
rated a 1971 CBS television
Christmas special which aired live
on Christmas Eve from the United
Nations Church Center in New
York City.
Along with Composer Raymond
Brown Courtney produced two
choral works "In the Name of The
Lord" and "In Obedience" a wor-
ship celebration of the Lord's Sup-
per and baptism. The duo also
composed "Lottie D." a musical
based on the life of a missionary to
China in the 1800's.
Courtney and his wife Cynthia
Clawson an accomplished singer-
songwriter completed the musical
"Bright New Wings" which deals
with life's transformation which
comes through Christ; and
"Angels" a children's puppet
musical. They have also co-written
several songs for Cynthia's
albums on the Triangle label.
A 1969 graduate of New York's
Neighborhood Playhouse School
of Theatre Courtney co-authored
and starred in the Broadway play
"The Earl of Ruston" a reflection
of his hometown life in Ruston
New queen to have coronation Nov. 5
The coronation of the 1981-82
University Queen will be held on
Nov. 5 at 9:30 in Behren's Chapel.
Five girls are In contention for
the honor Including Dee Berryhill
Vickie Lee Lisa Patterson Pattl
Vanstory and Jill Wyatt. The girls
were selected from 18 girls
nominated and the ladies not
chosen as queen will make up the
1981-82 Queen's Court. The Court
accompanies the queen for manv
functions Including appearances
at Parent's Day and Homecoming.
In addition the girl selected to
be the queen will be Involved in
numerous parades and social
engagements for the university.
According to Annette Layman
chairman of the queen's corona-
tion committee for the Hardin-
Simmons Student Congress the
coronation will be a special time
for the university as pageantry will
abound during the ceremony.
Fred McNab minister of music at
Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and
an alumnus of the university will
be the emcee of the ceremony and
Hardin-Simmons senior Charles
Downey will sing for the new
queen.
The queen was selected by
secret ballot on Oct. 15 in an
all-school election and the results
of the election will not be released
until the coronation.

All students who are interested
in traveling to Dallas on Monday
November 9 to see the Dallas
Cowboys take on the Buffalo Bills
should sign up as soon as possible
In Moody Center as there are
presently 30 openings available.
Cost for the trip will be $15 which
will cover the expense of ticket
and transportation. The group will
leave Moody Center Monday after-
noon at 3:30 p.m.
