Introspection
Friends

Its that time of year again. Papers are due tests seem to pop up
every day and and the assignments are about to drown every student
on campus. The grades seem to be going under water (below C level)
and the presures of just keeping up are crowding in.
It seems like everyone goes through these hard times and although
many are suffering it always seems like We are alone during our down
times. It Is in times like these that friends are needed. One can not ex-
pect to go through life without having someone to trust and confide in.
Everyone needs a release from the everyday presures that build up.
When was the last time you stoped long enough to listen not just
hear the problems and hurts of a friend?
Friends are the glue holding the world together when times get
rough. A friend is a person you can count on when everyone turns on
you and he is one who wants the best for you at all cost. Are you this
kind of friend?
So often on this campus individuals do not care for one another as
they should. We refer to mere acquaintances as friends but we know
that in a time of need they will not be near. The students faculity and
administration need to cultivate friendships that form lasting bonds.
When was the last time you had a long friendly talk with a professor or
even Dr. Fletcher or another administrative offical?
Those students who are outgoing need to stop gathering with other
outgoing people and start meeting introverted students on the cam-
pus. Likewise the introverts need to get out of their dorm rooms and
meet other people. HSU claims to be a family but is it? Is there a real
family bond on this campus? I believe it is time we try to create this
type of atmosphere on campus.
If Hardin-Simmons is going to continue to be strong the people
here must begin to care about others and be sympathetic to each
other's needs. Do you really care about the person next to you in your
eight o'clock class or do you even know the name of the person
seated next to you in chapel?
Stop and look deep inside yourself. Are you guillty of having an
apathetic view of your fellow students? If we all work together we
can make HSU a real family but to do so everone must make a
sacrifice. We must bond ourselves together and press toward the
mark of excellence.
