HUNKFEST AND
DANCE A SUCCESS
On October 6 2001 the Hunter Hall
women's dorm of Hardin-Simmons
University sponsored a charity barn dance
in honor of the Hendrick Home for
Children. 300 students attended the dance
which doubled as a date auction in order to
raise more money and thus was advertised
as the "Hunter Hall Hunkfest and Cowboy
Dance."
A D.J. from one of Abilene's local radio
stations provided the music for the dance
which was held in a barn in Eula.
The "dates" that were auctioned off
were double-dates that included dinner an
activity and ice cream. Area restaurants
and businesses donated the "dates" as well
as some of the refreshments that were pro-
vided at the dance. Those restaurants
included: ABTEX - Dr. Pepper Pepsi
Luby's Roadhousc Ruby's Jo Allen's
Cahoots Lytic Land and Cattle Mary's
Mexican Restaurant Black Eyed Pea
Abuelo's Harvest Moon Golden Corral
Harold's TCBY Green Jeans GW's
Burgers Dos Amigos Joe's Italian Grill
Muscle Tech Lusky Ryon's Burger King
Cypress Street Bogie's Chick-fil-a
Paramount Movie Theatre Clear Channel
Radio - KEAN & KOOL UA Cinema
Putt-Putt Roller Skating Bowling and
OLD NAVY.
The date auction consisted of 16 young
single HSU men who were first chosen by
several of the residents in Hunter Hall and
later gave their consent as participants in
the auction. Students had fun with the auc-
tion idea as one group of girls bought their
friend a date for her birthday! The auction
was successful and raised $1000 for the
Hendrick Home for Children.
With the presentation of this gift of
$1000 the Hendrick Home for Children
announced that the donation would be "ded-
icated to pay for the cost of renovating their
flag pole the purchase of a large American
flag and the installation of floodlights"
said David W. Miller President and C.E.O.
of the Home "that will display our pride in
America throughout the nighttime hours."
