CONCERNING HONORS.
Had you stopped to thlhk who is
responsible for tho reputation of our
-college Tho President Yos ho has
.art important role. And tlio Faculty is
very significant in our growth. Tho
Board of Directors and tho citizenship
of Ablleno have given at all times a
vital contribution to thd importance of
Simmons among Texas 'Universities
'amd American colleges.
But what would wo have if thoro
were notstudents for those other fac-
tors to experiment on? Tho students
.are and must bo the greatest advertis-
ing 'isset of any school. Simmons
students are especially recognized as
.having an Individual and distinctive
beating from other college people.
They1 are noted over the State for 'tholr
loyai attitude toward their homo col-
lego.' Tho senBe of individual respon-
slbillty 'to tho school and its promi
nent organizations is equaled in few
place's.
. Always among people tliercaro lead
rs. And. so there aro student loaders
in 'every activity; Thdse leaders aro
-very seldom appreciated. They work
""hard to keep up the standing of tho
publications tho societies the inter-
collegiate affairs and in fact the col-
lege. What do they get? Well gen-
orally they get criticised. There are
always rumors of great graft and per
sonal -privileges. Besides these slurs
and slams they receive nothing but the
.' satisfaction of duty done. What will
be tho remedy for theso conditions?
' Allow. thiB suggestion frpm an in-
terested" outsider: "Simmons College
needs more students aspiring to lead-
' crshlp and a deep senso of appreciation
manifested by the majority for tho
leading minority." Of course wo believe-'this
ideal Is being realized but
why" should wo not speed it up a
little?.
A plan has been suggested by sev-
eral students and at least two mem
bers of tho faculty. Wo give lettors
to athletes ' and wo always speak
proudly of bur lettered-men. A lik
system of letters would be appropriate
In the literary "activities. Every stm
ont knows of the exploits of old atb
letes. Alrhart Hudson Adamtv
Thomas Bradley Evans and Leo nr
names which pall to mind a patriot!".
feeling in tho heart of ovory studenl.
But who knows of the debates won1
probably less than half of our student
know of tho splendid victory of Caro
well and Morgan secured for Simmons
over Mississippi Col lego in 1914. A
few more know1 that Miller and Hull
won tho honors last .year .over Ouacht1
ta College. Those ihen ha.yo done
much for Simmons and she should
honor them with a letter. Thero are
many others to -whom she 1b equally
indebted. Ethel Thomas a literary
genius; tho lato.W. E. Roberts a mas
ter mlftd and so on thoro aro scores
who've- workod sacrificed and contrite
utod their share to tho upbuilding of
tho'school and gone .out Into the world
without any recognition of apprecia-
tion. -
Another advantage of Buch a "let-
ter" Bystom Is that it will add an "im
petus to literary work. Students show
less .interest lri literary contests in tho
work of their societies In giving- them
selves opportunities for full develop
ment. Why is It? Because students
like other human beings aro vain.
the wish honors they see no per
manent recognition of their efforts
and the" incentive to higher things is
lost. We tho Btudonts are duo it to our
selves to tho students to come and to
the school to do something in this
lind.
Mr. President of the Council let us
get busy. How about it President or
the Press- Club' Oratorical and Debat-
ing Council Science Club Pope
Clio's Mary-Ks and Phano Societies?
Let us have1 a student committee with
a supervisory ono from the faculty to
wpfk on this plan for at least a term.

FACULTY GUESTS OF PRESIDENT
AND MRS. SANDEFER.
Tho spacious reception hall and par
lors of Mary-Frances Hall were the
scenes of much Christmas Joy and hap
piness when on Christmas evening
Pres. and Mrs. Sandofer entertained
the member's of the Faculty of the
College and their families.
Cedar Holly and Christmas bolls
together with tho soft warmth of the
open fire added the charm of holiday
welcome and hospitality to tho hearty
greetings of President and Mrs. San-
defof. While tho children enjpyed many
and various games and a fire-works
display their elders enjoyed equally
as well an evening 'of laughter and
conversation.
Delightful music from tho Vlctrola
