The Coggin Academy
Building will be remodeled
into the Center for Social
Justice as part of the new pro-
gram. "(HPU is) working now
with an architect" Humcniuk
said. "What he envisions is the
Center for Social Justice to
make the bottom part a Moot
Court. The top floor would
have Criminal Justice.
Psychology Sociology
(Social Work) and offices for
us (faculty)."
Criminal Justice majors
will have opportunities to do
internships at local facilities to
fulfill the practicum requirement.
"We have a great com-
munity where we've got insti-
tutions here." Humcniuk said.
"We've got the Texas Youth
Commission we've got the
I lav ins Unit we've got the
new law enforcement center
and in talking with all those
individuals from those facili-
ties they want to have Howard
Payne students come work
w ith them in an internship pro-
gram so it's really a win-win
situation." (Sec sidebar for a
description of these local facil-
ities) Although the Sociology
program will become a minor
field of study. Humcniuk said

The second question is on
whether there should be a constitu-
tional amendment protecting taxpay-
ers by prohibiting state mandates that
require local property tax increases.
