i PROHIBITION FIGHT
Is on In Tennessee Will Be the Chief
Issue of the Forthcoming Ses-
sion of the Legislature
SiJecial to the Herald
Nashville Tenn Jan 4 The Ten-
nessee legislature meets tins year
with fevery indication that the fight
for statewide prohibition will be the
chief issue of the session Both sides
iave lined up for the fray and the
struggle undoubtedly will be a bitter
one Though large sections of the state
are now dry the prohibition ele
Tnent declares that it will not rest un-
til Tennessee has joined the ranks of
Georgia Mississippi North Carolina
and other states iu prohibiting the
liquor traffic entirely
The Pendleton law now on the
statute books gives local option to
cities of less than 100000 inhabitants
The fourmile law is practically pro-
hibitive in operated territory The
democratic paity platform pledges the
party to take no backward steps in
liquor organization but to extend and
apply those laws to all portions of the
state not now embraced in their op
eration whenever the people of the
communities to be affected thereby
give their consent
