Scholarships Coggin Agriculture Scholarship: Under the will of the late Mr. and
Mrs. S. R. Coggin, a portion of the Coggin Endowment provides for
scholarships in the Agriculture Department. Recipients must be residents
of Brown County.
Hallie Davis Scholarship: Many foreign students have been helped by
this fund established by the late Mrs. Hallie Davis, Fredericksburg,
Texas, to be administered by the President.
English Literature Memorial Fund: This scholarship was established
in memory of Dr. Cleo McChristy, Professor of English for many years.
Josephine and Fred Flynn Scholarship Fund: Established by Mr. and
Mrs. F. L. Flynn of Harlingen, Texas, for needy and deserving Howard
Payne students. Applications for the scholarship are available in the
Student Aid Office and recipients are selected by the Scholarship
Committee.
Blanche Lowe Grove Scholarship: The late Dr. Roxy Harriett Grove
left to Howard Payne College a fund creating scholarships in memory
of her mother. Mrs. Grove was a member of the early faculties of the
College.
Mattie Anderson Hale Memorial Scholarship: The interest on this
endowed fund is to be used to award a scholarship of $200.00 each
year. The highest ranking young man and young woman in the senior
class who are majoring in English will receive the award. They must
possess the same high Christian and moral characteristics as exemplified
by the life of the late Mattie Anderson Hale.
Mottie F. Havins Memorial Scholarship Fund: Established by Mr.
and Mrs. Bob Havins and Dr. T. R. Havins of Brownwood, and Dr.
and Mrs. Gordon Creel of San Angelo, with earnings to be distributed
as directed by the trustees of the Howard Payne University Scholarship
Foundation.
Jackson-Harvey Scholarship Fund: This fund established by Mr. and
Mrs. R. E. Jackson of De Leon, Texas, to help ministerial students.
Sam Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund: The late Mr. and Mrs.
Sam Hughes, Brady, Texas, for many years, have helped needy students
and this fund was established to help students from Brady, Texas, and
to be administered by the president.
Jessie H. Humphries Memorial Scholarship: Administered by the
president of the university for the purpose of assisting worthy students.
Only the interest from the principal may be used for this scholarship.
Jesse H. and Mary Gibbs Jones Scholarship: These scholarships are
awarded to young men and women of outstanding ability who need
financial aid. The winner will receive its benefits for one academic year
if he maintains a scholastic record consistent with the standards prescribed
by the president of the university.
