ART EDUCATION 102. ART IN THE ELEMENTARY GRADES.
Methods and problems in lettering, designing, poster-making,
block printing, and varied media form the basis of this course
for elementary teachers. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 201. ART FOR RELIGIOUS PURPOSES. This
course is designed to acquaint the ministerial student and the
layworker with the history of church art and architecture from
ancient to modern times, and to give him instruction in simple
lettering, sign-making, chalk talk, sand box technique, and vacation
Bible school activities. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 202. ART FOR THE SECONDARY TEACHER.
A survey course offering a basic knowledge of the practical uses
of line, form, value, color, and texture, their appreciation, and use
in school publications, equipment, architecture, decor, and as
teaching aids. Required for majors in Secondary Education. Three
semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 203. (Formerly Art Ed. 103.) CRAFTS IN THE
ELEMENTARY GRADES. Methods and problems in simple weaving
in cloth, reed, and fibre; clay modeling, ceramics, soap carving,
and work with available metals are included in this course. Laboratory
hours to be arranged. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 204. (Formerly Art Ed. 104.) CRAFTS IN
THE ELEMENTARY GRADES. This course gives instruction in various
craft methods used in clubs, public schools, camps, and Vacation
Bible School. It includes leather work, wood carving, ceramics,
beadwork, simple games and puzzles, and papier mache work.
Laboratory hours to be arranged. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 301. (Formerly Art Ed. 204.) ART APPRECIATION.
Painting, architecture, sculpture, and industrial arts. This
course provides a basis of judgment for the interpretation of the
visual and space arts with emphasis on the practical approach to
appreciation. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 302. (Formerly Art Ed. 205.) ART APPRECIATION.
A detailed study of the greatest figures in art: Michelangelo,
da Vince, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and others plus a survey of
contemporary masters. Interesting material and a non-technical
approach make this course of value to both the artist and the
layman. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 401. (Formerly Art Ed. 202.) HISTORY OF
ART. This course is designed to acquaint the student with his art
heritage through the twelfth century. Three semester hours.
ART EDUCATION 402. (Formerly Art Ed. 203.) HISTORY OF
ART. A study of the major and minor arts from the Italian Renais89
