development of greater teacher competency. Our purpose is to
give teachers and administrators in training a knowledge of the
ethics and program of the teaching profession; to afford them
practical experience in working together in a democratic way
on the problems of the profession and the community; to interest
the best young people in teaching as a lifelong career; to emphasize
Christian character and superior scholarship on the part of
prospective teachers; and to encourage them to acquaint themselves
thoroughly with a body of subject-matter in their teaching
fields.
ADMINISTRATION
The administration of the Graduate Division is intrusted to
the Graduate Council, appointed each year by the President of
the College. All policies and regulations affecting graduate curricula
and work leading to the Master's degree shall be formulated
by the Graduate Council, and the Director of the Graduate
Division shall administer such policies and regulations.
ADMISSION TO GRADUATE STUDY
Two classes of students are recognized and admitted to graduate
study: (1) those who desire to become candidates for the
Master of Education Degree, and (2) those who wish simply
to pursue graduate study without regard to obtaining a graduate
degree.
As soon as possible after admission to graduate study, the
student who desires to obtain a degree should confer with the
Director of the Graduate Division about the choice of his major
and minor professors and a complete program for his graduate
work.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Graduates of Howard Payne College and of other colleges
and universities of standard collegiate rank, recognized by the
accrediting agencies in whose jurisdiction they are located, are
admitted to graduate study by the Registrar of the College upon
the presentation of the proper credentials by the applicant. These
credentials shall include a complete official transcript of college
and/or university credits and a completed Application Form to
be secured from the Office of the Registrar. These forms shall he
filed in the Registrar's Office on a date well in advance of enroll
