BULLETIN OF HOWARD PAYNE COLLEGE
SUGGESTED COURSES FOR RELIGIOUS
WORKERS OTHER THAN MINISTERS
AND MISSIONARIES
The recognition of the growing need for church workers
other than ministers and missionaries has prompted the suggestion
of certain grouping of courses for students of this type. Two
general classes are recognized: First, those who will probably
combine in their church work religious education and secretarial
work; and second, those who will combine religious education
and church music. Either group must take Bible 101 (Old Testament
Introduction) and Bible 102 (New Testament Introduction).
For the former group the following courses are suggested:
shorthand, 12 semester hours; typing, 6 semester hours; religious
education, 6 or 9 semester hours; journalism, 3 or 6 semester
hours. For the latter group of students the following courses are
suggested: Music, 14 semester hours; religious education, 16 semester
hours. Instead of 16 semester hours in religious education,
it may be advisable for the student to take 12 semester hours in
this field, and 3 to 6 semester hours in journalism. It is further
suggested that all church music students become members of an
organized choir in a local church and gain as much musical experience
as possible, particularly in junior and senior years.
Credits from seminaries are accepted in Bible, Church History,
and Greek up to a maximum of thirty semester hours, provided
these credits have not been used in the seminary for the
B. D. degree.
THE SUMMER TERM
Howard Payne College offers a most convenient plan for
summer instruction. Regular degree courses are offered as well
as a wide range of subjects especially adapted to teachers. Primary
and elementary education, as well as art, music and physical
education fill a large place on the schedule. Members of the
resident faculty conduct most of the courses. Extension of teachers
certificates is made by summer work the year the certificate
expires.
Students interested in summer work should write for a special
bulletin.
