30-HOUR THESIS PROGRAM
Prerequisites:
BA Degree with an undergraduate major in Greek, including 12 hours of
advanced New Testament Greek and 6 hours of Classical Greek.
Six hours of Latin.
Six hours of Hebrew.
Degree Requirements:
Six hours of Greek Readings.
Three hours of NT exegesis (6000-level).
Nine hours: Bible 6322, Bible H 6362, and Bible M 5369.
Six hours electives, chosen with approval of the Biblical Greek Graduate Advisor.
Thesis.
36-HOUR NON-THESIS PROGRAM
Prerequisites:
BA Degree with an undergraduate major in Greek, including 12 hours of
advanced New Testament Greek and 6 hours of Classical Greek.
Six hours of Hebrew.
Degree Requirements:
This program requires two years for the formal course work and the completion
of the required schedule of reading. Thirty-six hours above the undergraduate major
are required and shall include:
Three hours of Linguistics (5369).
Six hours of Latin (5351, 5352).
Six hours of Hebrew (5381, 5382).
(If Latin, Hebrew, or Linguistics requirements have been satisfied by
undergraduate courses, electives approved by the Graduate Advisor will be
substituted.)
Three hours of NT Exegesis (6326).
Three hours of Text and Canon (6322).
Three hours of Backgrounds (6362).
Three hours of NT Readings (5381 or 5382). If either or both courses have been
taken as an undergraduate, other readings courses will be substituted.
Three hours of Septuagint (5326 or 6327). One year of Hebrew is prerequisite.
Three hours of Patristics (5330 or 6331).
Three hours of Hellenistic Greek (6328 or 6329).
Language:
A reading knowledge of German, to be tested by the Foreign Language
Department of the University. This examination must be passed by the time the
student presents application for Admission to Candidacy.
Examinations:
Two comprehensive examinations must be passed by the candidate:
a. A written translation of Greek authors. The examination will be of four hours
length and will presuppose that the candidate has completed a minimum list of
readings in the original of about 2,000 pages (list available on request).20 Abilene Christian University Graduate School
