Religious Education (MS)
Graduate Advisor: Holbert Rideout
The Religious Education major provides a unique program for those who desire
to prepare themselves through one year of post-baccalaureate study for more effective
teaching and administration in the Bible school work of the local church.
Prerequisites must include:
At least thirty hours in Religious Education and related subjects, including a
minimum of twelve hours in Bible text courses and twelve hours in Religious
Education.
Major:
The MS Degree in Religious Education may be obtained (1) through a 30-hour
thesis program, in which a minimum of eighteen hours including a thesis must be
completed in Religious Education, or (2) through a 36-hour program not requiring a
thesis, in which at least 21 hours must be completed in Religious Education.
Minor:
Six hours must be divided between two fields in the Bible Department other than
the major field. The remaining six to nine hours may be selected in conference with the
Religious Education Graduate Advisor.
Biblical and Related Studies (MS)
Graduate Advisor: Ian A. Fair
The MS program in Biblical and Related Studies has the same requirements as
the MA program, except that the language requirement is omitted.
Master of Missiology (MMiss.) Degree Program
Graduate Advisor: Edward F. Mathews
Prerequisite:
A standard Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
Course Requirements:
45 semester hours beyond the bachelor's degree.
21 hours, as follows:
Bible M 5329 Field Work*
Bible M 5345 Cultural Anthropology
Bible M 5346 Missionary Principles
Bible M 5372 World Religions
Bible M 6319 Research Methods
Bible M 6375 Theology of Missions
Bible M 6372 Seminar in Church Growth
12 hours of Biblical text courses (18 if no advanced Biblical text courses are
included in the undergraduate program).
Electives sufficient to make the 45-hour total.
* Field experience as a missionaryapprentice or experience in an approved program such as MARK, S HARE of the Malibu church in California,
MAP of York College, or MPP of the University church in Abilene are recommended.Department of Bible 23
