Comprehensive Examinations:
In addition to regular course examinations, comprehensive examinations will be
administered during the last two semesters of residence. A bibliography of
supplementary readings will be furnished to aid in preparation for these exams.
Master of Religious Education (MRE) Degree Program
Graduate Advisor: Holbert Rideout
Prerequisites:
A standard Bachelor's degree or its equivalent.
Mature students who do not hold such a degree may enroll in these courses and
work toward a certificate attesting to the satisfactory completion of 30, 45 or 60
semester hours of work.
Degree Requirements:
The student must complete 60 semester hours of a planned program.
There is no automatic transfer of credits earned in other institutions, but such
credit may be granted with the approval of the graduate advisor and the Dean of the
Graduate School. At least 30 hours must be completed at ACU, and normally the last
semester should be completed at ACU.
Field Work:
Approved and supervised practical field work of four to six months duration
must be completed without academic credit.
Bible Knowledge:
The Test of Knowledge of the English Bible will be required for the MRE Degree.
A student must present a satisfactory score on this test before being considered for
candidacy.
Comprehensive Examinations:
In addition to all regular course examinations, comprehensive examinations will
be administered toward the end of the degree program. The student will prepare for
these examinations in part through his formal courses and in part through
supplementary readings from a selected bibliography provided by the faculty.
Required Courses:*
AREA 1. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
A total of at least 36 semester hours must be completed in Religious Education, of
which at least 18 must be taken at ACU, and at least 12 at the 6000-level.
Bible 5301, 5331, 5333, 5334, 5335, 5336, and 5338.
AREA II. BIBLE AND RELATED COURSES
A total of 24 semester hours, selected in conference with the Religious Education
Graduate Advisor, must be completed in the following fields:
Old Testament (Six hours): Bible 5340 and any other of the 5000-level text courses
(6000-level courses may be approved for those with adequate backgrounds).
*If in his undergraduate preparation the student presents any of the required courses or their equivalents in any of the listed areas and fields,
