EDUC 491 Student Teaching: ESL Elementary (1-9-4), fall, spring.
ESL student teaching is all-day for six weeks during the senior year. The
other six weeks of the semester may be used for a second five semester
hour student teaching assignment. Formal application for student teaching
is made with the Director of Field Experiences. Credit/No-Credit
grade.
EDUC 492 Student Teaching: Elementary (1-19-9)*, fall, spring. The
culmination of undergraduate teacher education, student teaching includes
directed teaching and related activities in public schools. The
total student teaching experience must earn nine semester hours of
credit. If certification in ESL, Kindergarten, or Special Education is
desired along with elementary student teaching, EDUC 492 will be for
five semester hours of credit. For all-level P.E. and all-level Music certification,
EDUC 492 will be for four semester hours of credit, and
EDUC 494 (also required) for five hours of credit. If certification is for
elementary education only, EDUC 492 will be for nine hours of credit.
Nine semester hours are awarded for all-day student teaching for 12
weeks.
Division of Secondary Education
EDUC 322 Reading in Secondary Content Areas (3-0-3), fall, spring.
A course designed to analyze reading skills involved in secondary content
areas, including techniques of teaching study skills, improving comprehension,
and vocabulary growth. Prerequisites: EDUC 311 and 321.
EDUC 412 Secondary Curriculum and Media (3-0-3), fall, spring, summer.
A course designed to present basic principles of curriculum
development coordinated with textbook use and lesson planning. This
course presents Chapter 75 of the Texas Education Code and an introduction
to supporting media. Course fee: $25. Prerequisites: EDUC
311 and 321.
EDUC 432 Management and Methods Seminar, Secondary (3-0-3),
fall, spring. A concentrated study of classroom management, motivation,
leadership, curriculum, and planning. This course meets daily for three
weeks prior to student teaching and requires twenty-five hours of field
work in the classroom of the student teaching assignment. Prerequisites:
EDUC 311, 321, 341, and 412.
EDUC 493 Student Teaching: ESL Secondary (1-9-4), fall, spring.
