10 Admission Requirements
Those who have not completed college credits in mathematics
must present ACT scores before being permitted to
enroll in a math course. (See mathematics requirements
under "General Education Requirements," p. 19.)
Transfer students with 64 or fewer semester hours may be
required to take one or more special courses as a condition
of admission to a degree program depending on their
ACT or SAT scores. (See "Initial Academic Programs," p.
15.)
Individual Approval
The Director of Admissions can approve freshman applications
from students who have not graduated from high
school but have passed the General Educational Development
equivalency test and from persons 21 years of age or
older who present strong evidence of ability to succeed in
college. These students must have a composite score of 15
or better on the ACT. Individual approval is not appropriate
for those who have a high school diploma or for
those who have attended college, regardless of age.
Re-enrollment
Students who have previously been enrolled in ACU must
contact the Registrar's Office (ACU Station, Box 7940,
Abilene, Texas 79699) and complete a re-enrollment form.STEPS IN APPLYING FOR ADMISSION
The following items are required for admission to the
university.
Application
A formal application for admission must be submitted.
Fall applicants should complete their applications by
March 1, if possible. A Social Security number is required
since it becomes the student's ID number. Those who do
not have a number should secure one before submitting an
application.
Application Fees and Dormitory Deposits
Appropriate fees and deposits must be submitted before
an application for admission will be processed. These payments
may be combined into one check or money order:
1. Applications must be accompanied by a $10 fee. This
is not refundable unless admission is denied.
2. To reserve a dormitory room, a student must submit a
$100 deposit and a room request form. Students
must live in campus housing unless they are married,
are 21 years of age or older, are living with parents,
or have junior standing (60 or more semester hours).
Transcripts
1. Freshman Applicants
For those who have not yet completed high school at
the time of application, a high school principal or
counselor should complete the "Class Rank" form
contained in the application. After graduation from
high school, the applicant should provide a complete
transcript showing both the date of graduation and
the class rank. It is the applicant's responsibility to
request the transcript.
Applicants who have already graduated from high
school should provide a complete transcript and disregard
the "Class Rank" form.
2. Transfer Applicants
College transfers must submit an official transcript
from each college previously attended. A high
school transcript is also required.
ACT or SAT Scores
ACT or SAT scores must be submitted by all freshmen,
and by transfer applicants with 64 or fewer semester
hours. Those who have taken the ACT but have not requested
that scores be sent to ACU should send $3.50 to
ACT (Box 451, Iowa City, Iowa 52243) and request that
their scores be sent to ACU, College Code 4050. Be sure
to mention the college code.
Applicants are encouraged to take one of these tests at the
earliest possible date. Prospective students cannot enroll
unless ACT or SAT scores are on file. Students who take
the SAT and receive less than 1075 as a combined score
will be required to take the ACT also.
