The Library
The College library is a member of the Bibliographic
Center for Research and is designed to
provide study and research materials for students
and faculty. Books are on open shelves, giving
students access to a major portion of the collection.
Other college and city libraries in Abilene
are open to ACC students.
LIBRARY DATA:
180,000 volumes; over 7,000 added yearly,
Receives 1,387 periodicals and newspapers.
38,619 microform and 6,000 discs and tapes.
Special Bible and Biblical language collection,
including rare volumes.
The Sewell Bible Library collection of 3,000
volumes. Emphasizes the restoration of
New Testament Christianity and religious
education.
The McGarvey Library. Designed to encourage
post-graduate reading. A borrow-bymail
plan is open to graduate ministers.
Religious Activities
To deepen spiritual training and experiences,
student-directed religious meetings are held three
nights each week, including the Tuesday evening
devotional on the Administration buildings steps,
Campus Christian Women, and Mission Campus
and Outreach. A Missions Retreat is held
annually.
Organizations and Activities
You may choose to participate in extracurricular
activities or organizations involvingyour interests - either music, drama, writing,
campus government, athletics, social, departmental
interest, scholarship, or honorary.
An active intramural sports program as well
as all-school social events may also attract your
participation.
ROTC
ROTC offers a course of instruction leading
to a commission in the U.S. Army Reserve when
a student graduates from college. ROTC courses
carry college credit and are available to ACC students
at Hardin-Simmons University. Army
ROTC scholarships are available.
Testing and Counseling Services
You have the services of professionally
trained personnel to counsel in the following
areas: academic (including the development of
good study habits); educational and/or occupational
planning; personal-emotional adjustment.
The office administers these exams and tests:
American College Testing Program (ACT)
National Teacher Examinations (NTE) senior
requirement for some majors; Freshman Battery
of Tests.
All test results are filed in the Testing and
Counseling office and you are encouraged to
request that the results be interpreted to you.
You may also request special tests in this office.
Correspondence Study
More than 50 courses are available to persons
who find it difficult to do residence study.
Courses are prepared, handled, and up-dated
with care equal to that given equivalent residence
courses.
