SCHOOL OF MUSIC
the music lesson a delight to children. The Dunning work is taught
in classes, and is supplemented by private piano lessons.
PREPARATORY GRADES,
First Grade.-Three terms. Two private lessons and one class
lesson each week. Tapper, Kohler, Norris, etc.
Second Grade.-Three terms. Two private lessons, and one class
lesson each week. Tapper, Streabbog. Czernv, etc.
Third Grade.-Three terms. Two private lessons and one class
lesson each week. Tapper, Concone, Loeschorn, Heller, etc.
INTERMEDIATE PREPARATORY GRADE.
For the benefit of the adult beginners, or for those who have
graduated from the Children's College. but who are either too
young or too much engaged with other work to enter the College
grades. Two private lessons and one class lesson each week. The
class lesson is devoted to correcting the pupils' particular faults,
as in rhythm, sight reading, or lack of musical knowledge.
THE COLLEGE GRADES.
Course l.-Three terms. Two lessons weekly. Practice minimum
three hours daily. Technical studies, Bach-Busoni, Two-Part
Inventions, Czerny, Cramer and Heller Studies, Sonatas. Selected
Pieces, Recital.
Course 2.-Three terms. Two lessons weekly. Practice minimum,
three hodrs daily. Advanced tehcnic. Bach-Busoni. ThreePart
Inventions, MacDowell Etudes, Octave Studies; pieces by Grieg,
Chopin, Schumann, Sgambati, MacDowell, etc. Recital performance
once each term. Hymn playing in Chapel.
Course 3.-Three terms. Two lessons weekly. Practice minimum
three hours daily. Advanced technic. Bach and Handel,
Suites and Preludes and Fugues; Studies by Henselt, Chopin, Liszt,
etc. Pieces and Concertos by Beethoven. Chopin, Schumann, MacDowell,
Saint-Saens or Moszkowski. Public Recital.
NOTE.-While the College courses in music may be covered in
three years, it is earnestly recommended to-such as may desire to
complete a course of study in theLiberal Arts and a course in
Music as well, that they shall take the work during a period of
four years. This a talented pupil may do well, without overwork.65
