DANIEL BAKER COLLEGE
PUBLIC SCHOOL MUSIC
A Course to Prepare Special Teachers of Music for Texas Schools.
FIRST YEAR.
Course 1.-Voice Culture. Special reference to the training of
the child voice. Two lessons weekly.
Course 2.-- Iehods and Materials, presentation of the Rote Song.
Study and reci'alion in standard texts for Public School Music
work. Snht Singing, Dictation, etc. The first five grades of the
Hollis Dann Music Course.
SECOND YEAR.
Course 3.-Continuation of Course 1.
Course 4.-Methods and Materials from sixth grade, including
special reference to High School Music, Glee Club and Chorus.
Candidates for graduation must have earned two full credits
in theoretical music, including History and Appreciation. and Music
and Harmony. One full credit must be earned in Sight Singing
(2-3 and Ear Training (1-3). Also one year in College English
and one year in Education.
NOTE.-It is very desirable that a student be able to teach some
high school subject or drawing in connection with Public School
Music.
THE THEORY DEPARTMENT
The cultivation of "harmonic thinking" is of the utmost importance
to the music student. Rapidity of musical thought and
the cultivation of the ear, are essentials; and unless training in
these branches goes hand in hand with technical training. the latter
will in many cases be more or less futile.
COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES IN MUSIC THEOfY.
Course 1.-The History and Appreciation of Music. Developed
by lecture, seminary and written work. Two hours a week recitition.
Three hours i week of Choral Singing in Glee or Choral
Club, organized church choir, and choral union. Three terms.
Credit, one course.68
