William G Shives better known
as Bill came to Tulia from Bonham
twenty eight years ago Prior to
that time he had worked in trim
shops two or three years in Greenville
and Dallas Bill went to work
for Dick Clennin twentyfive years
ago in the same building where ho
now works At that time Bill was
doing body and trim work including
painting He is versatile in that his
abilities are such that he can to
this day completely assemble a car
install the mechanical parts upholstery
materials do the painting and
make it ready for service Bill has
been with the Appleton Motor Co
the past twelve years with the exception
of a few months when he
was in business for himself
Bill was married to Teresa Bomar
some twenty three years ago He
grinned when ask the wedding date
He said his wife would know but he
just could not remember He said
he knew it was about that many
years since his and Teresas only
child Billy was twenty years of
age Billy is now a student in A M
college Bill is proud of his son
Billy and justly so He is looking
forward to his graduation with two
degrees from A M Bill said he
never had a chance for an education
but he wanted his boy to have a good
one He likes to fish and swim He
seldom gets the opportunity to enjoy
his hobbies but once a year se
does visit his parents in Bonham
and while there always drives over
to Dennlson dam for a day or two of
fishing He remarked that he had
tried swimming in the new Tulia
swimming pool but felt out of place
with so many youngsters His wish
is that in the future at least one
night in the week be set aside for
older people who enjoy swimming
Bill likes to live in Tulia He has
owned his home for several years
He remarked that Tulia was a good
town of thrifty people good people
with good schools and churches His
only regret is that Tulians have been
too slow demanding improvements
such as better street paving more
curbing and more street lights He
believes that Tulia should vote bonds
and pave all the streets In that
way all property owners would share
alike and there would be no excuse
for streets as we now have He was
very enthusiastic when making these
remarks and said he would do his
part any day
Bill is a member of the fire department
and never misses a call
He loves good jersey cows and kept

Army of Reservists YOUNG MEN need what Uncle
Sam has to offer
Strong nations seldom are attacked It is only when
a nation becomes weak when its military strength is at a low ebb
when its men are untrained for battle that an enemy strikes
To keep peace keep strong For a nation to maintain military might
it must have a large welltrained Ready Reserve well versed in the
latest in military know how and equipment
It is up to the young men of America to provide
this manpower Under the Reserve Forces
