The EIS for the move of the

The move of the 20th Engr Bn

A major part of the ERI calls
for existing engineer forces
supporting heavy armored di-
visions to be reorganized to
support better the Army’s cur-
rent employment doctrine. In-
stead of a single large engineer
battalion with a support com-
pany each division will now
have a dedicated engineer bru-

complete the 1st Cav Div will
have 1354 engineers.
No exact estimate of the cost
of the move itself can be made
at this time since it depends
heavily on how many soldiers
are actually moving with the
unit. However the move is
part of the overall plan to save
defense dollars while preserv-
ing a combat-ready force struc-
ture.
Assuming that the unit
moves at 70 percent of its cur-
rent authorized strength of 743
soldiers and that about 55 per-
cent of those 520 soldiers who
would move are married 286
families will be moving with
the unit.
The bulk of the families
moving with the unit should be
soldiers under the age of 35
with young children ranging
from infants to early teens.
The total number of children
sions carrying mail and trans-
porting Morale Welfare and
Recreation tours.
“OUR MISSION is to pro-
vide medium lift support for

explained.
Cashiers Checks/Most All Types
should be around 330. Because
of other unit moves the net
long-term increase in the num-
ber of school children in the
Fort Hood area due to ERI will
be approximately 147.
There is ample room for
these soldiers and their fami-
lies at Fort Hood. Until 199i
the installation and the sur-
rounding communities housed
two armored divisions. The in-
activation of the 2nd Armored
Division left some 12000 hous-
ing units in the three-county
area vacant.
THERE IS also ample bar-
racks space on post for single
soldiers. In addition local^
builders are adding to the local
housing stock at a rate of 2.5
percent per year. Housing
should not be a problem even
if other proposed initiatives
such as the addition of the 5th

volves two engineer support

one MWR tour and medical

ACAP dropping orientations
As subject programs draw down Army
Career and Alumni Program is reducing the
frequency of orientations to assist soldiers in
submission of requests for separation. ACAP
now presents two orientations per week. Ori-
entations will combine VSI/SSB/BERP (Phase
2) briefings into one session. Briefings are
scheduled for 2 p.m. each Tuesday and Thurs-
day. 288-ACAP (2227)
Inf Div are executed.
If the proposed move of the
5th Inf Div to Fort Hood is
approved it should begin in
the late summer of 1992 and
take approximately 16 months
to complete.
Medical and dental resources
at Fort Hood will be adjusted
over the next two years to
track with the influx of new
troops. All essential medical
services will be available for
both soldiers and family mem-
bers through Darnall Army
Community Hospital troop
medical clinics and local con-
tract PRIMUS clinics.

Physically-challenged helped
Physically challenged employees may be re-
imbursed for the use of specially-equipped-
privately-owned vehicles used in work-related
travel on Fort Hood. This is for persons who
require a wheelchair lift or other equipment
preventing them from using a military taxi or
on-post shuttle. Standard Form 1164 used for
reimbursement will be approved by the em-
ployees’s supervisor and certified by the motor
officer TMP building 4147. 287-2225.
As is the case now it is
expected that dental services to
family members will continue
to be limited to emergency ser-
vices. However service mem-
bers can cover all family mem-
bers with insurance for less
than $10 per pay period.
“MEDRETES have really
been one of our most reward-
ing missions” he said. “The
neat thing is you’ll see people
coming for miles. The people
know this may be their one
chance for medical attention.”
